xcrmckenna Posted October 11, 2018 Report Posted October 11, 2018 I’ll be flying into Las Vegas this weekend. Anyone up for a meet up? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
sdflysurf Posted October 16, 2018 Report Posted October 16, 2018 Are you going in to KLAS, KVGT, or KHND? I just went into KHND with our mooney for the first time - looking to hear from anyone who has landed and parked at KLAS to know if it would be worth it. Quote
xcrmckenna Posted October 16, 2018 Author Report Posted October 16, 2018 Sorry, I land at KVGT. I think it’s pretty expensive at LAS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

I have landed at HND and VGT, depending on my plans when I get to the city. I have contemplated LAS, as local pilots have told me they were in and out reasonable prices, like for under $100 for fuel and fees for a night. YMMV, but I called the FBO's and was quoted something well beyond that (over $300 for 2 nights) for both FBO's listed on Airnav. Which was what I expected. I would like to hear someone has confirmed lower prices. Or you can paint your plane white with a red stripe down its length, and then you can park at the special GA terminal. :-) 1 Quote
MB65E Posted October 16, 2018 Report Posted October 16, 2018 Last year I had a 182 in there for the day. Atlantic charged No ramp fee, I purchased maybe 25gal. They said it was a new policy that they were no longer charging pistons for the normal crazy charges. -Matt 5 Quote

I’ll be there for SHOT Show in Jan, and omitting the 30 min Uber from VGT will be nice. -dan Edited October 18, 2018 by exM20K 1 Quote
carusoam Posted October 18, 2018 Report Posted October 18, 2018 Vegas makes a nice place for trade shows... In case anyone is wondering... The Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show... That is much cooler than the Packaging Expo. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

The SHOT show is January 22-25, 2019. http://shotshow.org The porn convention is January 23-26, 2019. https://www.eventseye.com/fairs/f-aee-adult-entertainment-expo-17364-1.html I'm giving a course there January 24-27, 2019 - not related to either of the above I always fly into HND. SantosDumont Posted October 18, 2018 Report Posted October 18, 2018 Vegas local here. I would recommend HND. LAS is fun the first time when you want to park at Atlantic, get the photo of your plane with the strip in the background, then step outside and go check into your room at Mandalay Bay. What sucks is when you come back to leave, have to wait 20 minutes to be able to get a word in with Clearance Delivery to get a VFR departure, then wait another 20 minutes for a taxi clearance from ground, then a 2 mile taxi down to 08 or God Forbid, the 4 mile taxi to 26. The misery is multiplied exponentially when it’s summer and 110 outside. At HND you call ground, (they also have clearance delivery for IFR now) have a 2 minute taxi and are gone. The Uber from HND to the strip is only 15 minutes and about $20. 2 Quote
exM20K Posted October 18, 2018 Report Posted October 18, 2018 So even with more reasonable parking rates, the fuel cost at KLAS is so high that it's hard to rationalize landing there. $8.39 vs $4.94 at VGT or HND. I'll probably take on 70-80 gallons for the trip home.... -dan Quote

3914N Posted October 19, 2018 Report Posted October 19, 2018 I've landed at VGT and I was very happy there. Reasonable prices, not too far of a drive from the strip. On my way inbound from the south, Vegas approach cleared me to overfly the strip through the Bravo. Very cool flight. Quote

They are doing all kinds of road construction to get ready for the Raiders stadium and it can easily be an hour to go 10 miles to the strip. The only time there's traffic between HND and the strip is on Friday night when all the Californians show up for the weekend. Quote

I'll try HND next time. Quote

I was there and didn’t have a problem with traffic. They do most of the construction in the middle of the night. My house is a stones throw away from KVGT and I was at the craps table at the MGM Park in 20 minutes:)Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
