Having problem with Precise Flight Electric Speed Brakes series 100. Light indicates deployment but they are not deployed, any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome out in the open and on your first post, WT!

PreciseFlight made at least three versions...

manual, vacuum and electric...

The electric ones wear out their clutches and go back to PreciseFlight for service.

The vacuum ones run into trouble with their plumbing after many years.

The mechanical ones go nicely with manual flaps and manual gear...

When was the last time the speedbrakes were removed and inspected?  IAW PreciseFlight's recommendation, this should happen every 200 hours for a look at gears, motors, and overall functionality.  The 100-series brakes are accessed through a rectangular-shaped panel under each wing (corresponding with the location of the brake on top of the wing), and are connected by a black twist-lock.

Got an open circuit somewhere. Shouldn't be too hard to trace with your multi meter.

Welcome to the forum. Please fill out your Bio, tell us about yourself and your bird. Stick around and get Marauder or Nobody mad at you and have fun. :)

I have had ongoing issues with my left speed brake. They are series 100 also and use micro switches that seem to be sensitive to corrosion or poor contacts. I find that with the master off, exercising the blades by hand through their full motion will operate the switches and get them to act normal again. Don't try this with the master on as the clutch will be engaged in the speed brake drive and you'll damage them.

It is part of my preflight that when I check the lights I pop the brakes out and if they don't extend, I do that routine and they seem to work again. Mind you, the other day they were frozen in place with ice, so might be that too.

Which is exactly why I suggested removing them and doing an overall physical inspection to ensure you don't have anything broken before diving into wiring issues.

Any ideas where the relay is for the 100 series on an Ovation 1.  Had the speed brakes rebuilt (according to Precise there isn’t a set # of hours on the 100 series) but now the left one will deploy but not retract.  Precise suggests it’s the relay as they both work fine when connected to the right side plug.

I've had them freeze up also...typically the aircraft sat out in the rain...water gets into speed brake cassette and freezes at altitude .

I just recently had to adjust the cam on an electric series SB set. One you see how the contacts get triggered by the offset cam you it is pretty easy to fix. You might try some electrical contact cleaner in the actual trigger. I would avoid getting anything in the clutch. Or, just remove and send back to PF.

I’m assuming this was resolved? I just got my bird back from annual with the battery replaced and now my electric precise flight sb don’t work. Maybe they forgot to connect something with the new battery?

You did check the circuit breaker?
