Thanks for the heads up. I spoke to the folks at LASAR. Paul had triple bypass heart surgery, and is said to be doing well. Sherry is with him. I wish him well.

Bennett, if you do FaceBook do a search for Paul or Sherry. She's posted prayer requests and updates for the past couple of weeks.

My E has vents to the outside (via the belly chamber) in the front corners of the floor of the baggage area. When I bought the plane these vents which have a screen in them were plugged with dirt and lint. I think these are there to allow air to exit and are necessary if air is to come in via the vents and heater. If that is correct, blocking those vents will reduce the heated air flow.

I don't do FaceBook, but I'm sure someone there monitors MS. So, Shery and Paul, hang in there we are thinking of you and pulling for you.

Sounds like the cold air in the baggage area is being displaced by the heater air pushing the cold air forward and circulating.  Probably not enough heat to get the whole cabin up to temp. I have a heat vent in the center pedestal under the quadrant.  I know you don't have a quadrant, but do you have the vent?  Opening this made a HUGE difference in the backseat temperature.

You might try closing off the baggage area with a blanket or large foam piece and see if the problem still exists.

Well, after all of these ideas, I feel like I barely tried to fix it.  My door, window and baggage door seals are new.  Wind lace is new too.  I do feel a little cold air leaking around under the panel, I think the avionics plenum may be leaking.  I will try Tom's trick and seal the vents from outside, including the top and bottom air exits.  I have wondered where the bottom exit goes, will check the baggage floor...I think Bob may have the answer there. I thought the hole was heat, but now think it is exit air...I think that has been mentioned to me before. I have a heat outlet under the panel in each seat.  The copilot side puts out a crazy amount of air and heat.  The pilot side spits out an acceptable amount if I partially close the copilot side.  The two rear ports barely put out any heat, same with the defoggers.  Think I will try to cut a foam plug for the hat rack.  I suspect Tom is right about the lack of insulation.  Clarence may be on to something too.  I have battery cables, wires, Brittain hoses, static lines, step cables all going through open holes.  These may be an opportunity too.

I'm not on Facebook, nor religious, but I'm sure that prayers are always appreciated.

There is also a vent on the floor of the baggage compartment.  The 65C had a back facing scoop under it.  Looks like a big suction device...

I imagine if you get everything sealed up, like you engineers can. Always have a CO monitor with you/ on... (please) :)

Best regards,

Yes, very good point!!!  I have two CO detectors of different design.  The only time it ever registers is on the ground when I think I get some theough the nose gear well.  I will see the effect of various plugs, I suspect leaving the bottom one open may help move air in the right direction.  I just want to eliminate that forward moving breeze.  I am not very motivated to do this sealing in the next couple of days.

I opened my window in to flight for the first time Saturday, to get good reflection-free photos. When I went to close it, it sucked out of my hand and slammed pretty hard.

I think they all do that.  The pressure differential is probably why a small defect in the seal can cause a relatively loud noise.  The pressure should help it seal but as I recall the main window is slightly curved and the small part that you can open is essentially flat.  So, even with the pressure holding it shut it isn't flush against the main window at all points along the edges.  Pushing on the edges and corners will change the sound of the hiss as the window flexes a little.

the idea for finding it would be.  Tape some yarn to the end of a cut coat hanger.  Use the wind direction of the yarn to track it to the source.

My D does the same thing. Cold air on the back of my head. I'd hate to ride in the back seats in winter.

The "Ice Window", that's the little window on the left side, has a seal on it. If yours doesn't you need to get one.

I made a foam plug that sits on top of my rear seat and seals the entire back end and that stops the cold air from moving forward. Made all the difference in the world. I suspect lots of air is sucked out the main door seal pulling air forward. I also think some of the air comes in around the baggage compartment panels as they are not air tight when screwed in. That is my next project when the interior goes in.

I like the air flow in the hot summers here in Arizona so I dump the foam seal when it gets warm.
