Hi

I am looking at two M20F's and there is something quite odd.  Serial number 670100 is assigned to two mooney's, one M20C 1967 and the one I am looking at is a 1968 M20F.  Mooney is closed till after Xmas so I cannot ask them.

Any comments or ideas?  Is it possible that Mooney would have used the same serial number twice?

Yes Mr. Presley is the seller and I am being very careful.  I do know that he is essentially a mooney curber and a little bit difficult to deal with.  FAA files do check out and are Ok.  Next step is logs and inspection and I have advised Jerry that I will be ripping that machine apart for pre-inspection if and when I get their.

Sounds like you may have experience with Mr. Presley!

Thanks for your help

I do, but I have had nothing but good experiences with him and found him very honest and straightforward. But, he does buy wrecked airplanes and I would recommend checking out any airplane he has for sale very closely.

Hey Gary sorry to tell you but I'm the new owner of N328CM.  Me and my wife flew it home the day before Christmas.  Sounds like you have Jerry pegged.  He won't offer up too much info but he won't lie to you either.  I believe he still has the other one but I didn't even look at it so I can't help you there much.

HI Kendall

Thats very interesting.  I suspected there was BS going on.  All of last week I was in a full discussion with an agreed price.    He also was in full negotiation with you at the same time.... what a piece of work.   At least he could have told me that he was negotiating with someone else.....

Can I ask what you paid?

Thanks everyone for the concern.  I did my homework before I bought this airplane.  I got all the records and spoke with the previous owner about what actually happened.  For what I paid I really believe we got a great little airplane.  It amazes me to think about all the money that must of been spent on mods with previous owners.  I think the only thing not 201 on it are the tips.  Obviously the "twisted" wing prevented that change.  Yes Dave it's actually a 201 cowl.  It has 201 panel, yokes, all the fairings and gap seals, even speed brakes.  We flew it the 4hrs and 30min non stop home the day after Christmas with plenty of fuel to spare.   It was nice flying cross country with that kind of range and comfort in comparison to my Pitts.  I'll spend the next few weeks going throught it and taking care of some minor items.  After that the wife is excited to transition into the left seat of her first retract.  Good talking to you Gary and good luck in your hunt!

Hi Kendall

I grin as I write this... You kiboshed all my hard work but good for you.   You got there first and did a good deal and thanks for calling me , I appreciate that.  Plane sounds like it'll be well used and in good hands so enjoy.  I'll maybe meet you somewhere down the road or skies.

Since we are still dealing on 6802V I'll post this next question to everyone under a new thread called "prop Strike" .  Take a look there and respond if yo have an idea.

I guess I'm bringing this one back...

I'm looking at AD lists and they list two s/n conventions:

22-xxxx and <year>xxxx.  Examples, 22-1272 and 670241.  Why the diff?  Both are F model numbers.

Posted

The yy#### convention was used until 1970.  After that, they changed to a ##-#### format, where the first two digits do not signify the year; they signify the model instead.

 I see.  Thank you.

So 22-#### would have been the Mustang?
