Remove ADF

I have a KR85 ADF.  it has the seperate CDI over on the pilots side with the ADF on the copilot side under the transponder.

It has a torx screw on the front.  If I turn it I can see what looks like a little latchy thing spinning if I look up under it. (theres a gap in the panel just big enough to see it).

however no matter what direction I turn it I can't pull the unit out of the tray.  Doesnt even budge.

Is there something else besides that torx bit thing on the front that needs to be removed before it will slide out?  Can I push it from the back somehow?  I dont really care about the knobs but it doesnt seem like I can pull very hard on them and theres not much to grip from the front.

Once your new trans. is installed, you might consider having the FAA do a performance test on it. https://adsbperformance.faa.gov/PAPRRequest.aspx    

Removal of the ADF:. Often you can continue to turn the Allen/torx screw counter clockwise and this will start to extract the unit.  You may go through a no-resistance part and then continue turning counter clockwise until it starts to reach resistance again.  This is the tab on the screw's threads now pushing against the square notch in the tray which should help push the unit out.  You may have to wiggle the unit at the same trying to back it out to get it to free up.

I plan on doing that test.  I think it has to be done for the $500 rebate anyway.  I live in class C so its no big deal.

 

thanks for the ADF info.  going to try that today.  I was worried I would spin it off or something.  although not sure why i care since its going directly to the trash !

nothing below it so I can see that side.  my annunciator in on top but it looks like it will slide out without to much pain.

Does your ADF work?  Amazingly those things still have value in some parts of the world and you will likely be able to sell It on eBay.  Lee

nah its inop.  not sure whats broken was inop when i bought it.

got the ADF out.  Had to pull the annunciator because its lip was overhanging the adf by a millimeter or so keeping it from sliding out.

Pulled the antenna bnc off and the harness from the ADF rack.  Pulled the harnesses off the back of the CDI.  Now the hard part for tommorrow is going to be getting the harness out and the CDI out.  Its like a jungle in there.

Im going to leave the ADF rack in and make a cardboard glovebox out of it.
