has anyone got experience on the fastest cheapest way to ship some ailerons from the US to Australia?

the costs seem exorbitant and the time is slow, for this day and age.

Aside from the traditional courier services, you may want to speak directly with an airline which flies internationally.

Buy a ticket on Quantis, and check the crates? It's worked for me in the past. The ailerons are no longer than a snowboard.

I'd even offer to carry them for you but a round trip ticket might throw the budget off a tad.

UPS

FEDEX

Local shipping broker would be the best bet. That way they can handle all of the paperwork.

Contact your best GulfStream

Good luck.

Fast and cheap don't go together. I purchased a cowling in Hawaii and it cost me $700 for 4 week service. One week service was over $1500.

Airlines used to also haul packages from counter to counter, perhaps that is an option if they still do it.

We ship a lot of airfreight and courier packages internationally. AU seems to be the highest cost. Some suggestions - check with air freight, typically about 33%-50%  the cost of courier and with 5-7 day international service. You may have to do door to airport, meaning your consignee will need to clear customs and pick-up at the airport or arrange delivery.  One carrier we have been experimenting with is Pilot Freight Systems. Good prices and so far no service failures. Another option is to find someone in your area that has an account. Large shippers get up to 75% off published rates at Fedex/UPS, etc...

I understand you want it right away, meaning it will cost you lots of money.

If you send me the dimensions and a city in Australia and origin I will be more than happy to quote it LCL for you, just for grins.

But it will need to be crated and will take some time on the water.

Makes you wonder how the plane got there, doesn't it? I assume crated with the wings off in a boat.

Nah, they ferry them over. One pilot wearing an exposure suit, and a huge bag of fuel where the back seat should be.

I had to ship a small box to China and it cost about $100 and took two weeks.

I ordered a new pressure switch for my air compressor on EBay. It was from China. Shipping was $7 and it arrived 4 days later! How do they do that? The shipping company was the Chinese Post Office.

4 days? Lucky, I buy stuff on ebay from china and it takes a month. Then again the last thing I bought was $3 total with shipping.

I have my theory on this (as a completely random side topic I also bought a pressure switch for my compressor)..... I think they bulk them up and put them on an air freight container and if the plane has cubes and weight available they throw that container on.  The shipping label had some markings and identification on that were unfamiliar.  Also the shipping package was completely untouched, i.e. didn't look like it went through the machines at any sorting facilities.  I realize this doesn't answer any questions but it is a theory I am going with.

I think you're right, I'm awaiting one right now and the tracking info says it was put on a qatar flight.

As to the ferry, can they go that far? I know they can make hawaii and I guess there's a few little islands they can stop at in between?
