How about calling Wentworth or Dodson to see if they have a used replacement.

I may do exactly that at some point. I'm curious about the insurance possibilities first though. If it turns out that I have to foot the whole bill, I'll likely pursue fixing what's there first, but may also look into a used aileron. The problem with the used one is I'll have to do some paint.

Yesterday I really screwed up and backed my plane into a hangar door. The result was a pranged right aileron on the trailing edge. My hope is that this thread doesn't turn into a "15 helpful tips for backing your plane up." or "What the hell was wrong with you Dave???" type thread. I'm just looking for advise on how to get it fixed.

Is it still too soon to ask "What the hell was wrong with you, Dave???"  I've been having a hard time not instigating thread drift... :)

Dave... all I can say is welcome to the club. I bought my plane with two dinged ailerons and its driven me a little mad but the airplane still flies just fine.

If I had done the damage myself I think I'd be tempted to call the insurance man... Alas.. in the mean time I search for used ailerons about every month and just cannot find any. They are a rare commodity probably because of all the dings that happen.
