Good evening fellow Mooneyfolks,

I've never been in a Mooney. I found one that has caught my eye a few states over, before I get too serious would anyone in the area be willing to give me an intro to a C model preferably. I'd gladly pay for fuel.

Would be happy to take you in my F (just more back seat room and fuel injected).  We come in on occasion to eat a Hard 8 but will be January - in the middle of cotton harvest now.

Matt,

My short part of the story.

I found a Mooney I liked, I was looking for a 172, but stumbled upon this M20E. I looked for a ride and could not find one.So I just bought it, sight unseen, never flown a Mooney.

Then I found a flight instructor with a Mooney and  did some transition training. The first time in his Mooney F,  I was shocked how small it was ,I said out loud "Oh my god what have I done"  Well I'll flip it, I thought.  Then I flew 5 hours with him.

By the time I got my Mooney , I had already become a Mooniac. Now I think it is one of the greatest planes, and very comfortable, of them all..

I'm in Pennsylvania or we could fly.

I've got a pretty nice C and fly out of Austin. We're leaving in the Mooney and going to Durango for Christmas. The week after might be a possibility.

Thanks for the replies,

Carl; Thats almost what I had decided, my wife has been in a F and didnt mind the front seats. I'm thinking a roadtrip may be in order.

Paul; my sister is in Austin, I'll keep you in mind if we're down there soon ,or let me know if you find yourself in the area.

I've got an E. The front seats have the same room as the F I've heard. I've also read that the E's climb faster, mine certainly gets up there and I get comments about how much faster I get up there than the other planes at my home base. I'm  very happy with my E but very rarely do I have anyone to put in the rear seat. I'm also short so I probably give the rear seat more room than some other pilots. Despite my 29" inseam (pants) I have no trouble reaching the pedals and with one notch of forward travel left (on the seat) am set up perfect. Love my M20E.

From what I've read the C's are only a little slower and the engine management is easier. Cylinders cost half as much when overhaul time comes for a C. No worries about hot starts. I think I could be happy with a C but too late! I'm hooked on my E.

Thanks for the welcome, been lurking for a while trying to learn as much as possible.

E's and F's are still on my list, just found a C that fits the bill. I do like the pros of the C, cylinders and hot starts and so forth.

Pros and cons to both but lots of pros overall. Several of us C owners started initially looking for E and F models but stumbled across a nice C.  You really can't go wrong with either unless you need the back seats. Then I'd go with the F.

Some of us C owners were just looking for "a suitable plane" and stumbled accidentally into a local Mooney . . . and wouldn't have any other plane!

100% describes me in 1992.  Two airplanes later and I'm back to another M20C.  No regrets.

I have a C that I love. The first time that I flew in a Mooney was when I went to give it a test flight, and the first time I was really on the controls was my transition training. (I'm in Indiana or I'd take you flying.) Overall, a C is simple to fly and has all of the economy of the other models (though it is, admittedly, a little slower). It is a little tighter in the back seats, but I'm a short pilot, too, so it's not too much of an issue. Overall, there are way more pros than cons to a C model. If you find a good one, take it!
