Vintage Mooney cowling mod completion pictures!

Recommended Posts

Some see the CF, others see the G1 replete with carb temp.  Lots of attention to technical detail going on.

I am impressed with the detail of the G1 installation in the panel. The device and it's buttons all in the right place with precision.

The tight distribution of EGTs and CHTs during taxi tests are a nice way to start.

Best regards,

The CF on my panel is a 3M CF Vinyl. I couldn't find the material that is on the left side of my panel and I didn't want to paint the new right side panel I had made a couple of years ago. I then found this carbon fiber vinyl and thought it looked really nice. One day I'll redo the left panel to match and have that nice CF look on my whole panel.

I appreciate all the comments and feedback and look forward to sharing my data on the cowling soon, good or bad.

 Thank you,

 David

This morning I put the first flight on my new cowling. I'm pleased with what I've seen so far. The CHT's are better, the carb heat definitely works better than the original carb air box heat. The next few flights I'll get myself current and take some more data then go after performance numbers to see if I gained some speed.

:( Wonder if there would be a way to just make a little add on trim ring to close the gap.

EDIT: actually on second look I see that your cowling tucks behind the spinner. What's the actual hole diameter? any chance the Top Prop spinner would just fit through the center, rather than over the top?

I spent close to 10k on my top prop, love the cowling design, but not going to give up my prop for it.
