To the OP,

This one has lots of bells and whistles:

I saw that plane.  Beautiful.  The 2 things that I don't like about it are the AC and turbo.  A plane that nice shouldn't have needed a 12K annual either, at least the way I'm thinking!  That AC has to burn at least 100 lbs. of useful too.

I agree on the $12K annual but learned to hold back on judgement until I see the actual charges.  Mine had a $9K annual two years before I bought it and found they replaced all 4 cylinders after reviewing the receipts.  Sounds like he may have fixed some items that would make it easier to sell after putting them off for awhile.  Just my guess.

Late to this discussion but here's my 2 cents (though looks like you've settled on normally aspirated).  For practical purposes I wouldn't focus too much on J vs K vs S vs M given your mission.  I would focus on condition and features.  Buy the bird that has the panel you want and had a good previous owner that took care of her.  New stuff depreciates fast and getting work done takes a lot of time for both intial installation and debugging.   I think fixer uppers are mother *uckers unless you're really into that sort of thing.

I'm pretty sure (99%) that Eagle was for sale for a quite while by a small dealer in Vero Beach. FL with ~760 hours on it. I made a visit and observed evidence of a fuel tank leak (right tank if I recall) and also found out there were repairs to the tail ( I think the tail may have hit from a hand landing) .

I suspect that this bird probably sold for about $160-165K, then flew not too many hours, went back on the market and the price jumped. I have to I wonder why the new owner flew so little and is asking so much more than the guy that sold it to him? If, so there is nothing wrong with making a good profit, and in spite of a few concerns, it was a pretty Eagle.

I sent the deposit over yesterdat for 888DF.  The pre-buy went very well with the only "big" issues being worn motor mounts and leaky fuel tank covers, both of which are getting fixed.  There were a few other small things like loose heat shields, and a worn thermocouple wire (from sagging motor mounts) which will also be cleaned up before I go to get it.  I would imagine that I will be flying to Akron in the next couple of weeks to drop my Tiger off and bring the Mooney back.

She already had a 430 and a 696.  I use the 696 for Terrain, Traffic from the 330 mode S, and weather.  The 430 feeds flight plan to the Aspen and the autopilot.
