amillet Posted November 16, 2015 Author Report Posted November 16, 2015 First break in flight today. Rings may have been broken in at factory run in as CHTs at 75% 3500 ft full rich were were 279-297-312-274. #3 reads higher because JPI probe is piggy backed onto factory probe. After 2 hours I closed cowl flaps and CHTs were 325-331-350-312 at 75%. 1 Quote
jetdriven Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 did you get the model number off the governor. Sorry, but this improved format won't let me turn off underlining. Quote
amillet Posted November 16, 2015 Author Report Posted November 16, 2015 Yes, it was the -22, despite POH entry stating it was the -17. Quote

I have A3B6 and I'd like to compare. Thanks. Quote
amillet Posted December 4, 2015 Author Report Posted December 4, 2015 It was the metal flakes in the filter that made me decide to replace the engine (and approaching 20 years). July 2015.pdf Quote

I resealed my prop for 650$, paid 2 grand to the IA for the two weeks it took me and the motor was 2k cheaper 3 years ago. But umm, yeah. I drive a 7,000$ car. This is 6 times that and it uses a quart of oil in 6 hours. 1 Quote
Shadrach Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 $6955 to R&R an engine and to think I charged my partners $0 when I hung ours. I was quoted $4700 by our local shop for an engine R&R in 2010, my IA supervised my work for $500. It seems prices have gone up considerably in 5 years. Quote
amillet Posted December 4, 2015 Author Report Posted December 4, 2015 Price included new hoses & baffling. A Google search returned a Victor Aviation 2013 price list quoting $9431 for an Ovation R&R. Quote

I'm glad it was steady after 45 minutes of flying but I wanted to find or eliminate something and I achieved neither. I have new springs and balls coming for the oil pressure regulator. I will contact EI to see if they have seen or heard of this before and if it has been the sending unit. Did you resolve these fluctuations or maybe they never came back? thanks! Quote

An annual inspection does not include engine overhaul, and overhauling an engine (or even just one cylinder) isn't cheap. Oh I think he does stinky Quote
carusoam Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 We haven’t seen Mr. Bug around here in a couple of years... Rags pulled a thread from the past... And John answered without hesitation... as if the situation happened last week! Go MS! Best regards, -a- Quote
