1) I don't think anyone has to respond my babble.

 

So I flew today to get gas. Altoona has gas at 5.85 a gallon (rip off), I am based there. Mifflin county has it for 4.89 .

 

I took off with 10 gallons in right tank and 6 in the left.  Using 10 gallons On the right tank.

 

I was very nervous.  My plan was direct to Mifflin 39 miles. 20minutes or so , about 4 gallons . 12 gallons a hour divided by three .

I  flew about 120mph and leaned a bit.   If my gps failed or i was lost , i would call NY center and ask for vectors to the nearest airport.

 

Over the first ridge , there was lake Raystown, then the damn, then Huntingdon.then up the valley and there was the airport. 

Jumpers in ten minutes. 

 

I landed and refueled ., self service, self service jet too , how to chose?  I had 6 gallons in left and 8 gallons in right . I used 2 gallons.

 

Fuel says . groung wire . what is that ?    got it!  

 

The jumpers were landing.Young Nubial women in blue yoga pants...... I jumped in Vegas and was told of a " dress like Elvis" jump. ,but this was better ,I like women in yoga pants.  ( I did not mention big all, I know where this will go)

 

Restart, hot start , don't touch anything . Hit the starter. Yeah it worked ... 18 minutes flying back , no stress, I had 20 gallons each side. 

Pennsylvainia is always hazy and the ground looks exactly the same.  I don't trust GPS (tablet),the russians will hack them.( I have I-fly gps , worked great )

 

I don't trust my vor either ( i know I have trust  issues)

 

 

Questions 1)How low should i go , not really looking for the run till it is empty concept  , but does empty mean zero in our tank , or does empty ( engine quits) mean, maybe 5 gallons left , when measured with the stick.

 

I have a condo in fort lauderdale , so I am working toward a trip to FXE .

but it seems Spirit is cheaper., but it takes me twelve 12 hours travel time plus parking fees.

Anyone want to stay there ? 

 

 

 

But I have to make fuel stops . So today was great. I did my first fuel stop.

 

 

My goals

1) Fly to Mifflin county , get gas and watch the yoga women jump.

2) Get back to Vegas an jump dressed as Elvis ( anyone in?).

3) Extend my flights to Hagerstown and visit Ross. And get gas.  Ross I am coming !!!!

4) Flight to Florida. 

5) Meet the parrot king.

 

I am not pressed for time .

also anyone with aerobatic experience?  I am looking for simply , reaching into the backseat and wow we are upside down, now what?

1) take your time... Ross has the best explanation of what is going on inside a piston engine. There is a lot in there regarding engine timing and flame fronts...

2) don't wait too long... The parrot man has been busy with the big picture (if that is possible)

If you run the numbers it rarely makes economic sense to fly somewhere to get cheap gas. That being said, if you are just going out to bore holes in the sky, you might as well fly somewhere with cheap gas....

Congrats on expanding your envelope!

The book for my C says to not land with less than 6 gals in the selected tank. I think it has to do with uncovering the fuel port while turning in the pattern. Check the Owners Manual for your E.

Hank;  exactly , thats what I want to know,    of  course when you get to 6 gallons you had better land, cause you aren't staying up much longer.

The question is, did you offer any of the jumpers an airplane ride???

 

This is where having a good calibrated dipstick, engine monitor, and fuel flow meter/totalizer will make you happy. Your airplane can happily fly along at 5-6gph just fine... can be useful if things get tight or the unforseen happens.

I took a jumper to ride just a couple of weeks ago. Last year, when I was finally able to bring the plane down from WV, I gave a ride to a coworker; he said he'd been in a small plane before when he went skydiving, so he really enjoyed his first landing.

I always dip my tanks before each flight. Learn your plane, your power settings, and estimate fuel burn on every flight. Confirm it every time you refuel. This will give you confidence in operation and fuel burn.

Not having an engine monitor or fuel flow, I fly using the clock in the yoke and change tanks every hour. I plan on 2-1/2 hours per tank. Got distracted recently and missed my three-hour switch, so the left tank had taxi, runup, departure, climb from 264 msl to 9500, and a total of 2:25 cruise before the engine hiccuped during descent. checked the throttle and mixture,they hadn't moved. Second hiccup! Duh--check fuel selector, still on left, change to right and everything was okay. Ten minutes later I was on the ground. Flight time was 3.8, used 39 gallons (must have been a little rich, should have been 34 gals).

This why I switch my tanks every half hour...

Okay, so I realize spelling can be optional for some folks, and the OP's original message reads like a cross between Kerouac and Joyce. But still, while I'm quite sure he meant to say "nubile" in his description of the young jumpers, I just had to see if "nubial" was actually a word.

 

Well, it is, sort of, if you believe Urban Dictionary: 

Nubial: A part of someone's body that you love to pinch

 

"Nubial is part of someone's body you like to pinch such as Kneecap, elbow, cheeks, behind"

So either the OP is actually brilliant, or he lucked into something there. Either way, Bravo!

Flying for cheaper gas - incorrect

Flying for nubial women - correct.

And I'm willing to bet you all are just waiting for some pictures of nubial a.k.a. "pinchable" women?! Aren't ya?!

Certainly his opportunities for ten hour + nonstop flights has fallen to whatever the airlines are offering . . . She won't be able to use a Gatorade bottle . . . .

Has he visited recently? I do recall some videos posted over the winter including handheld portions from the right seat, and an announcement afterwards. Or is he busy getting domesticated?
