Most all the king products of that time use a display that plugs Into a socket. If it's a finger socket removing and cleaning with a pencil eraser will usually get the missing segments back working. The slightly newer stuff uses a round pin socket and reseating will often fix these.

The gas discharge display of the King Sliver Crown series do fail.  You can find replacement displays on Ebay from time to time.   Expect to pay $100 to $300 for one that is warranted as operating.   They are easy enough to swap out -- most are in pin sockets and need no soldering -- but you do need to be careful of the delicate leads.  A good electronics tech can do it with no drama.

To clean the pads on the glass display I use a Q tip wetted with contact cleaner. A pencil eraser will work also but too much force can take out the pad. Whenever handling the PCB with power keep your hands off. There is high voltage on the display contacts.

Yeah,

Even with no power applied to the unit, you can get quite a nice shock and little burns on your hands, or worst. It's amazing how much energy the little capacitors can store…More of less, anything with old school, pre LCD displays will have high power section. The CRT avionics units, even when disconnected, can actually kill you for quite a few days after disconnecting from power…

If it comes to replacement, remember the KN64 shares a tray and wiring with the KN62. The only difference is transmit power. I went from a 62 to a 64 in my 231 and have no problems.
