Guest Mike261 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I am looking at a hangar to purchase here at my home drome, and it has an old epoxied floor that needs to be refinished. it is an end T hangar so it has the extra floor area that the last t hanger typically gets. Does anyone have recent experience with the pricing on this? and did what pre prep did you have such as shot peening or sand blasting? refinish or bare floor? I need to factor this into my purchase decision. Mike Quote
carusoam Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Consider the automotive equivalent... http://t.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-EpoxyShield-2-gal-Gray-2-Part-High-Gloss-Epoxy-Garage-Floor-Coating-Kit-251870/100671422 One epoxy coating should stick to the other. Something to check for before getting a big surprise... Best regards, -a- Quote
Guest Mike261 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 i am a CB so normally I would consider this. I have used that exact product in my garage at home. lots of work cleaning and a whole weekend project and it just doesn't hold up well on an old floor. maybe a brand new concrete floor would be a different story for the rustoleum stuff. roofing and this type of floor I will pay someone else to do! there is little else I wont attempt. carusoam Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 That looks like a challenge for all floors... I have installed epoxy floors over old concrete floors at work (really expensive). The prep work takes a lot of effort... Clean, grind, pour, set, grind, clear coat, set, final grind... It should be pretty easy to clean the old epoxy floor and pour on top of it... If they have some spots that have come up, the additional prep work is pretty well focused on those spots... There is a more commercial product... http://www.ucoatit.com/# I believe that the commercial products quickly exceed CB economics... Quote
Marauder Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I gave up on floor expoxies, paints and those miracle cure finishes. I did my entire garage with these: http://www.costco.com/MotoFloor-Modular-Garage-Flooring-Tiles.product.100009181.html If I wasn't such a Cheap Bast$&d I would put them in my hangar. mooniac58 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I have done this in a 1.5 T hangar like you describe as well as my new 60x60 square hangar. The first one cost me about $4800 using a local company and the big hangar ran about $10,000 which was actually about 2850 sq ft because I build offices into the back of the hangar that did not get epoxy. This was using a local company that does garage floor coatings. If you want it to look perfect and uniform you might not want to try this yourself. It is awesome once done though - everything cleans up easy and I also had them add some high tech heat barrier compound that was like another $400 that acts as insulation for the floor (the hangar is heated and insulated as well). In the new hangar I went with a "full chip" coat which gives it really great texture (at the downfall of being a little harder to clean out marks and oil, etc). I like this compared to my first slick floor because if you come in with wet feel you are likely to wind up on your butt pretty soon. Attached are pics of the new hangar floor. You can see it kind of has a "sandy" look to it. It was done about 2 years ago and still looks good. 2 Quote

They grind off the old finish and level the floor in one operation then seal the floor with a clear or coloured epoxy. Clarence Quote

Bennett Posted May 13, 2015 Report Posted May 13, 2015 As an alternative........ I used interlocking plastic (garage) squares. Easy to lay down and they cover cracks well. Also easy to replace if you damage one. 2 Quote
