Dose anyone recall the discussion here on one of the forums about the rocker switch cover ? I remember reading it ,and now can't find it now ? Thanks

I was going to order one too - I have one of the version one 3-d printed covers and it doesn't fit right

I misplaced the website where to order a version 2.

I recently bought 1 v5 and 2 v6 Klixon shapeways covers.  We are updating the avionics and the switches need a face lift.

Unfortunately, neither version actually clipped onto the switch as the original.  The "ears" got right to the spot but didn't flex around and snap on.  We might have been able to get it on with a lot of pressure.

With that said, the smooth is "not smooth" and has a texture to it which I don't like.  The white and red colors were also colors I would not choose with other options.  The white was very bright white and the red was kind of fluorescent red (not similar in any way to the Master switch color).

We're still trying to figure out a better option.  Replacing the switches is not an option for the price.  We'll likely be refurbishing the existing for now.

I would be interested in a Group by of covers if we could get Sensata to help out.

Sorry to hear this. I was going to try to contact the person who created these and offer a defective switch for them to model it on.

Does Sensata even offer a smooth switch anymore?

With further investigation I found that you can get a blank mold and cast an original in epoxy to make a mold. Casting in the text is something I haven't figured out yet.

I have done that for thermoforming molds, essentially making a one sided mold from pieces of actual plastic packaging...

Epoxy and aluminum powder to improve heat transfer. A very small drill to add vent holes

More challenging for a 3D part...

I can visualize how it could be done with some basic machining skills...!

Making parts with the required precision using the above technique would add to the challenge.

Very interesting,

I just got one of the Klixon switch covers 3D printed from Shapeway. It took a bit of pressure, but it did snap on and the switch works. The surface is not smooth as others have noted, but not an issue for me as I intend to label the panel, not the switch cover. My switch covers are a mix of various vintages that don't match, so short of buying all new switches, this will have to do. I'm just glad I have a cover on switch. Ray

My new “shapeways” strobe switch.  I used laser jet decal paper and I clear coated over it with two coats.  Not sure how the decals will hold up but it least looks nice now.

What version is this and how is the fit?

Not sure of the version and I haven't tried to pop it in yet.

The version should be on your invoice from them. Let us know how they fit.

Couldn't find the invoice.  I posted the link I ordered from above.  I just "popped" in the switch.  I would not call it a "tight" fit but it's snug.  It feels the same as the stock switches with the same amount of "wiggle" as the rest.  By wiggle, I mean that it hardly wiggles at all but it's not perfectly melded to the switch.  Stated another way, it feels "right" and it's certainly not too loose.

Thanks. I folllowed the link. It appears that these are for the ETA switches not the Klixon version I have. Back to the search...
