I'd like to get something that allows Bluetooth streaming for iTunes for my wife. I was looking at the pma 8000bt. What I'd like is something that shuts down the music on just my headset for radio calls but keeps hers uninterrupted. Do they make such a thing?

I have and have been happy with the 8000bt.  I have used the bluetooth for phone, but have music hardwired from my Garmin396.  I am not sure that you can bluetooth music and if it would be in stereo.  You can set it to automatically mute for the pilot.  The monitor feature is also very useful to allow you to listen to audio from your second nav-comm, but have it muted when there is activity on your primary.

It is easy to have a music input installed on the panel or accessible to the back seat as well.  Typically my wife and I would listen to XM Radio in the front seats, and my daughter would plug her iPad into a jack in the back seat and listen to her music in back.  It is very cool.  we would be listening to different music and still be able to converse with each other.  Only my music feed will mute for ATC.

Without naming a specific audio panel or one with BT the Bose A20 allows muting individually and tremendous flexibility when moving from airplane to airplane and taking your music along as either XM on the 796 or equivalent or plugging in music from another source.  As far as audio panels go, I really like the GMA 35 or GMA 350, but many seem to like the newer PMA 450, an audio panel I haven't tried yet.

Dear Don:

The Bose A20 headset does not provide music streaming, only telephone. So it is not possible to listen to music in the A20 other than what an intercom or audio panel provides.

The PMA450 has both Bluetooth(BT) streaming and telephone, with the added benefit of a graphics display which includes caller ID.

Finally, the music distribution and muting mode are customizable for the Pilot, Copilot, and Passengers. For example, the Pilot might want to hear BT music and have both the intercom and radio mute the music while the copilot may want to hear that same music but not have the mute at all. Finally, the passengers would like to hear their own music with nothing muting the music.

While the PMA8000BT has flexibility, the PMA450 has complete control who hears what and when.

rbridges,

I just took a PS 7000M-S out of my Bravo for an updated audio panel.  The 7000 has two music inputs so each of you can listen to your own tunes.  The factory originally installed with only one input wired up but it hard to add a second input.  Look down at avionics for sale to view my ad.  This audio panel would work well for you.

Walt, thanks for the heads up but I'm probably not doing anything until later this year. Just did a new transponder and trying not to get divorced. Lol

I had the 7000B for many years and loved it.  The interface to the GTN 750 made the GMA 35 more useful to me when I upgraded my panel.  The 450 wasn't out at the time.  Regarding the Bose A20, certainly it is not an audio panel, but I have plugged in either a 796 or an iPod or iPad for music input with no intermediary amplifier and got great sound.  Also the 3 position switch allowed for Karaoke or "mute on communication".  I got a Y connector so one person could mute while the other could keep Karaoke mode.  Yes, it requires a one wire connection, no BT.  That's never been an issue for me or my students when on a long cross country.

I am doing the 80000bt and waiting for a vertical version. No place for a standard horizontal in an antique Bonanza. Had the KMA 24 and then the GMA340 in the 201. Both were excellent......very well made and great audio quality. Very few surges and spikes in audio. Even after acquiring a new PS audio panel, I'll still use the A20's for phone conversation. Dirt easy and perfect audio. I talk with clients while the prop is spinning and nobody knows I am even in an airplane.

I have the PMA7000B and I just plug in a HTC Bluetooth receiver into the music jack and pair it with my iPad. Works great. You don't need a BT intercom to make it BT capable.

I was looking at Sarasota Avionics website, and it says the 8000BT available in vertical or horizontal configuration.

I have the 8000bt and really like it, especially for phone calls. I believe the music mute options for the same for the pilot and copilot and different for the other positions. Of course, wiring the co pilots position as a passenger seat will solve that. Lee

Sell her current headset and get her a pair of Zulu2's. They are very comfortable and will stream music from Apple devices over bluetooth.

Unless of course you are just trying to get her buy in on your new pma8000BT audio panel.

I had a PS7000 installed many years ago.  We wired up both stereo inputs and a switch to combine them.  Quite frankly we never combine them, especially with the advent of smart phones.  The passengers (co-pilot could plug in there) can have one source, and not have the 'music fade' when talking or rail comms.  Pilot / copilot are on the same circuit and can install the switch to fad eor not fade.

I assume this was a feature carried forward to the 8000?

Thanks mark. Bottom line, would the 8000bt do what I need from it?

Yes, but your wife would have to plug her headset into one of the pax headset jacks.

Finally, I'm able to see the face that answers by 8000BT support questions. Welcome Mark.

I have the Garmin GMA-350. You can set it up to mute the music in the pilot headset during ATC conversations but copilot will hear music without muting. You can also have three different music inputs so pilot, co-pilot and passengers can all listen to their own different music at the same time or in any combination. Also the pilot can talk on com1 while the co-pilot talks on com2 at the same time. Also with the 3D audio the sound comes in the direction of the source. IE, co-pilot in right ear, passengers in rear.
