I understand due to International treaties, the US needs to maintain certain stations to assist with the operation of the Loran Chain.  I also believe Canada still operates some stations.

BUT, since the majority of the US has been terminated, its future unknown (back on for back up?), has anyone made a deliberate decision to remove the radio, wiring, and antenna to reduce weight, clutter, or provide additional space for other instruments or radios?

Thanks in advance as I "weigh" (bad pun) that decision...

Not yet, but it is on the list.  Its easy to dream up a lot of upgrades for that panel space!

Yes, pulled mine as well.  It was in a bad place to begin with, right above my left knee below the panel.  Why the decision was made to place it there is beyond me.  Once gone, my knee was alot happier.

Pulled ours for panel upgrade.  Found burned insulation on wire bundle behind Loran!  That's a good enough reason for me to do a panel upgrade every 20 years or so regardless....

I would love to pull mine out and use it as a proverbial boat anchor.  Only problem is I don't know how. Does anyone know how to remove the panel unit?

Arnav 5000 is still installed and staying off inop.

On the same panel I had just removed a KR-85 just a few months prior the fed turning off Loran.

All of a sudden, 4.5 in free !  Great for an MFD, but unfortunately, the KT-76 is in the middle. So 2 in above it and 2.5 below.

Waiting to see what happens with ads-b.

Gone when I installed my EDM-730.  Just useless weight these days.....like that which seems to occupy my mid section.

My bird had a Loran in it which the previous owner had removed. If I am not mistaken the loran was removed and an Apollo GX-55 was a slide in replacement maybe the antenna had to be wired in, I'm not sure. The gx-55 works fine not as handy as a 430 but for the price they are not too bad, and IF it is a slide in for a loran it would be a cheap improvement. Here is some reading:
