Hi,

During the holidays, I will be flying alot, weather permitting and I want to learn how to properly find my LOP setting trough the EDM 700 on my Rocket...

I have read alot about it, read the EDM docs, Engine stuff and as well "Fly the Engine" by Kas Thomas that has chapters about my engine and LOP...( great ibook by the way ).

After reading it all, in all honesty, I still feel a bit reluctant to really push on the lean side, maybe it's because I feel I don't have enough experience with it...

I know it has been discussed here before, but I'm kind of looking on more of an experienced pilot's step by step on how to find the sweet spot on the rocket ( obviously running it under 75%, since it says no leaning over 75%)....

Thanks very much and sorry if it has already been discussed so often here...

I fly my Rocket LOP, very easy I now have G4 but Any good individual cylinder engine monitors that have fuel flow, CHT & EGT & TIT are all you need. After this long I can now set it by feel & sound. Some call it the big pull... PM me I'll share my cell we can discuss easier to talk than write it. It is very easy, wish u were closer I'd take u up and show you in person! Nothing to be afraid of done properly!

On the 930, perhaps the 700 is the same, you can select LOP Lean Find. You'll slowly lean mixture and the JPI will identify leanest cyl. You might have to hit a button to display a graph that shows how many deg LOP each cyl is.

I do not run LOP at power setting above 65%. On my IO360A1A the gami spread is quite good (0.1) and I can run 40 deg or more LOP. But power and speed drop off dramatically at that point.

But your engine might be quite different.

Here's a Mike Busch article on EGT:
