aviatoreb Posted December 3, 2014 Report Posted December 3, 2014 Nice weather out of SFO this morning. Heavy rain, moderate turbulence, icing ... Had to shoot Loc BC into SNA. 1-3/4 SM RA. You guys must have a couple coats of wax on by now? ICING! In California. Bawahhhaahaa! :-) Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 3, 2014 Report Posted December 3, 2014 Forget waxing - its gonna be severe clear and 9F tomorrow 7AM - and I'm gonna fly! This is what a rocket does when it is nice and crisp - this morning on a 9F on a nice day. That's pegged at >2000fpm when the instrument can't read any higher. Quote

bonal Posted December 3, 2014 Author Report Posted December 3, 2014 ICING! In California. Bawahhhaahaa! :-) You guys obviously have never heard of the Sierras we don't need thunderstorms to make ice tallest mountain in the North American continent other than McKinley is in CA. And Owens valley is one of the nastiest places you can fly. Quote

Tallest in the continental US but not even in the top 20 in North America http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_highest_major_summits_of_North_America Quote
bonal Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 Yes the lower 48 is what I meant but the point is a lot of people don't show the Sierras the respect that they deserve they are some beautiful but very unforgiving mountains. Correction accepted 2 Quote

aviatoreb Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 And home to some nice skiing. OMG - I went to Berkeley - and wow I can tell you that I was in some "exciting" put-your-chains-on-its-a-blizzard check point traffic jams trying to get home from Tahoe. But sure was good skiing when up there. Quote

Guest Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Dealing with addiction . . . Hey. My name is Hank, and I'm a pilot. Hank, I would prescribe some 100LL and a few thousand feet of air under your butt. Report back on your condition. If no improvement, repeat daily as needed. Clarence Quote
Hank Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Thanks, Clarence. Maybe tomorrow, did you look at the radar today? Quote
bonal Posted December 7, 2014 Author Report Posted December 7, 2014 Had a break in the weather today not enough to fly but good enough to get the Christmas lights on the house. Ho ho ho ! Tomorrow might be good enough to put the wheels up in the wells. Quote
Guest Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 Just came back after my own therapy session in a new Quest Kodiak. I feel so much better, the owner put the 1500 in fuel in it! Clarence Quote

bonal Posted December 10, 2014 Author Report Posted December 10, 2014 Still low IFR dealing with it by spending way too much time on Mooney Space Quote
BigTex Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 weather here is pretty sucky as well. My spinner is so polished, it could be used on the now defunct Hubble telescope. 1 Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Bad weather here too.... I had my check ride cancelled for tomorrow - cuz its dumping snow. I got so much extra FAA trivia packed into my head it's painful - give me the test quick so I can start letting some of it leak out! Quote
bonal Posted December 13, 2014 Author Report Posted December 13, 2014 OKAY so the rain has stopped and right now there is low fog everywhere rain to return tomorrow so I need all you Mooneyacs to put out the positive waves to get that fog to burn off so us out here can get back in the air. 1 Quote

Dude! You ain't going to get any mojo help from those of us out east. If it ain't rain, it's fog and rain, if it ain't fog and rain, it's freezing rain and fog, if it ain't freezing rain and fog, it's wind and rain... Wait... Little bit of snow now... Quote
Hank Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 Boy howdy, Alan, you sure make me happy(er) that I moved back South! It's almost 60F outside. Quote
bonal Posted December 13, 2014 Author Report Posted December 13, 2014 WOOHOOO!!! Got to fly today did not go any where but 1000fpm @ 125 to 8500ft then worked on shaking out the cobwebs with some maneuvers lots of broken sky under my belly smooth as silk air and a couple of very satisfying landings. Heard another Mooney on the frequency over at WLW or perhaps it was OVE doing some air work as well. Sure felt good being back in the sky. Just did my airspeed calculations and came up with 161 knots. Based on 140 indicated 30.1 altimeter and 45 degrees OAT at 8500 elevation. No BS that's fast man 3 Quote
