Maybe it is just me, but I had a look at the three families of Diesel being marketed (or just developed) by Continental.  The CD-135 and CD-155 are their 100 series (155 hp and less).  The CD 200 are their old TD-300 series and put out between 230 and 250 hp.  The CD-300 is a V6 design that puts out 300 hp.  I wonder if the CD 200 series could be STC'd for our older models.

Hmmmmm -_-

I'm sure they could - its just a matter of money.  We can either hope for a company (Mooney or Continental?) to do it for us - or maybe someday a co-op of many of us might make a pool and pay for our own STC?

Agree well at least it is a step in the right direction somewhat affordable new aircraft is what we are hoping for. In the meantime a used nice turbo Mooney 201J works for me.

Nearly twenty people in the Dzyne photo, using computers to aid the design...

Art and Al didn't have this kind of team, yet the products still look similar after 50 years.

I'm looking forward to the flight tests.

One question...

Why the giant spinner?

I am looking forward to the O4.

Best regards,

I'm guessing to help fair in the gearbox behind the prop and give it a better aero profile.

Does many large flight schools purchase planes? I've been told before that the large schools who keep newer models lease the under very favorable terms.

I know this new airplane doesn't look like the tried-and-true Mooney we've all come to know, but I'm glad to see them branching out to new designs.  I'm not saying I want one of these, but that's not the point; they aren't marketing to your and me.  These new planes are stepping stones for a new generation to come up to the M20 designs that we are already comfortable flying.

Besides, from a marketing perspective, most of the successful aircraft manufacturers have more than one airframe from which to choose.  Cirrus is the only possible exception and they are soon to release the jet version of their model.  I'm happy to have Mooney make all the different designs they can dream up, as long as they keep making parts to keep me and my airplane flying safely.

I saw a drawing of the new M10J and I was a little disappointed in that they got away from the gear design on the M20 series.  I suspect they'll be changing the airfoil as well. :(post-8826-0-29166100-1415772849_thumb.jp
