wishboneash Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Today I bought fuel at Calaveras County airport KCPU in Northern California for 4.98/gal. Thanked the airport manager for the improved fuel costs. $4.97/gal in Livermore. Not bad for the Bay area. The manager at Columbia (O22) told me he dropped the prices by 50c last weekend (also at around $4.98/gal now). Quote

You can thank the companies and workers of South Texas, Northwest Texas, North Dakota, and a few other states none of which include states like Colorado for their investments and success in finding and producing new oil production. 1 Quote
cliffy Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Didn't someone say- "drill, drill, drill" a while back during an election? Quote
bonal Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 I guess with winter on the way all the fuel costs are dropping and perhaps with an Election Day just around the corner as well. Whatever the reason I'm glad to see it. Fore flight still has my home field at 5.77 hope that is old data or that it will come down a bit soon. Quote
Mooneymite Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 I just ordered 300 gallons for my home tank at $4.58 a gallon to be delivered Monday. My advice to everyone is to abstain from buying avgas for a day or, two. The price always drops dramatically after I fill my hangar tank. 2 Quote
rainman Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Just stopped in Llano TX for some BBQ at Cooper's, and the FBO at KAQO has 100LL for $4.30/gal.....we filled up! 2 Quote
flyboy0681 Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 $4.40 at my usual filling station at 2IS. I guess Obama ordered the oil companies to lower their prices in anticipation of the midterms. Quote
Guest Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Just ordered 3000 litres of fuel for my tank, $1.49 per litre, plus 13% tax, plus $0.05 per litre for the airport. Ouch! Clarence Quote
aviatoreb Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 :-( Still $6.30 at my local pump up here in small town USA upstate NY. Problem is, we are so small town it takes several months to go through a truck-load at the pump so I bet it will be sometime before we get a lower price....hope it stays low until then. We are still paying the price of July 1 or so when we last got a shipment. Quote
Awful_Charlie Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 Stop worrying - I'm looking at heading over to the UK next week, and over there it seems to be all around the 2GBP per litre - that's $3.17, or $12 a gallon! Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 $4.20 at KGYI (North Texas Regional) Get out and fly, folks. Quote
MooneyPTG Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 At KGRB Green Bay WI it is still $6.00 per gallon plus a now airport tax of 10 cents per gallon. 30 miles away at KCLI Clintoville WI you can fuel up for $4.80. When I mention this I get the "you would fly round trip 60 miles to fuel your plane?". I say yes! We fly, that is what we do and if I can get cheap gas at KCLI, that sounds like a great destination. They don't seem to get it. 1 Quote
ryoder Posted November 9, 2014 Author Report Posted November 9, 2014 They don't get it. I told my FBO before I left I am there to build time, learn, and enjoy flying. I can do all that for less money by buying cheap gas at remote locations. Now I am at the cheapest gas and hangar rent airport in the area and guess what, mechanics costs are cheaper too. 1 Quote

It's an age old question, why do some businesses elect to shoot themselves in the foot. Over the years I've had to make many adjustments and concessions in my business when threatened by competition, and in the end it always worked out for me because I retained those client for many years. If I thought short-term then I would have told my clients to take a hike, but working with them paid many dividends in the end. I just don't know what goes on in the minds of some business people. Is it better to have some business than no business? Quote
WilliamR Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Since no one replied to this and this thread has already gone off the track, Mobil 1 for both water and air cooled 911s is used at the dealers in Atlanta and Charlotte. 0-40w for the water cooled and 5-40w for the air. Now you know. William Quote
ryoder Posted November 12, 2014 Author Report Posted November 12, 2014 I missed this. It's weird how we have to pay extra for aircraft oil but are allowed to run straight mineral oil. Can't we buy straight mineral oil for cars and run that? Funny you should say this. The broker I bought my Mooney from was a Mooney-nut. He had an older C and and F which he operated out of his own (very short) grass strip. He was a retired engineering type (Ford Motor company, I think) and he told me that he ran auto oil (Havoline 10W-30) ONLY in his personal planes. He'd flown them that way for years. He said the worst modern auto oil was better than the best aviation oil and maintained that aviation-specific oil was nothing but a money making scam. God rest his soul, he passed several years ago. I have no idea who is now flying his planes. I wonder if the present owners know they'd been operated on Mo-oil for years. Quote
schule Posted November 15, 2014 Report Posted November 15, 2014 Nice day for a short XC. $4.20 in Iuka, MS. Gotta love spending less than $40/hr in fuel. Quote
PMcClure Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 $2.59 for 87 mogas in Talladega last week! No ethanol, too. To bad there was no landing strip nearby. $2.49 for Mogas at the Cotton Patch today in Talladega! Quote
ryoder Posted November 22, 2014 Author Report Posted November 22, 2014 Ok this is awesome. AvGas is now $3.95 per gallon at KZPH! I just got an email and will take advantage of it this weekend. The price is to cents higher for those not on the field. Quote

Hector Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 $4.09 in St. Augustine FL. The FBO in my home field just 15 miles north charges $5.09. Guess where I fuel up? Most of the guys I know in my home field fuel up in St Augustine too. I don't think our FBO understands the concept of competition, or he just does not care. Quote
ryoder Posted November 22, 2014 Author Report Posted November 22, 2014 One dollar per gallon is huge. I love that my home base is the lowest source in the area. It takes me ten more minutes to get there than Clearwater but the hangar is two hundred less per month, the fuel is cheaper, and the repair costs are lower. Quote
bonal Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Soon as this low cloud cover breaks on Sunday going to head to Nut Tree or Santa Rosa for some 4.90 a gal. Cheapest in the region but then I fly a C so ain't no big thing. When ever you guys put in your identifier it's fun to hop on over in Fore Flight and check out your turf. Haven't flown in almost 2 weeks and I'm going bat shit crazy! Quote
