On a flight yesterday I had an odd thing happen and I hadnt noticed this before so I cant say if it is the first time or not. I had my own plane show up as traffic on my Ipad, I have to say I was kind of creeped out for awhile till I figured out what was going on. I tried slowing a bit and then a level turn and couldnt shake ghost, lol. I have a GTX 330ES and a Dual gps/adsb 170 feeding my Ipad mini so I assume the dual is picking up the return from the GTX330. Does this sound right???

Yep happens all the time. Lag from tower to satellites to receiver. ADS-B traffic has a lot of flaws but hopefully will be a more reliable tool in the near future.

I have GDL39 and iPAD with the Garmin Pilot and it happens here and there. It reports a target with 0 miles distance and 0 ft altitude difference so you know instantly it's your ghost.

I had it happen once, GDL88 displayed on GTN750. ATC thought it was related to their antenna location. The "traffic" path converged with mine, went right through me at the same altitude and diverged as I continued, presumably past the antenna. Target displayed speed matched mine.

Reminds me of the scene in War Games where the ghost missiles hit!   Sounds like the kind of scare that makes for a good laugh after the blood pressure comes back down!

The ghost is not a bad thing. It confirms that you are within coverage of the system and your ipad will show traffic in your vicinity. The solution to the ghost is on the ipad application software. It should declutter it.

This is actually a problem we figured out at the shop recently. There are a couple things that can cause it.

1. The biggest one is the altitude source differential. I.e. if you have a blind encoder sending grey code info to your transponder and serial data to the ADS-B solution. The grey code and serial data are different speeds so you will get a ghost.

2. Configuration issue with your ADS-B solution.

That's a couple of solutions I have found so far. I don't get the chance to play with portable solutions very often so I can't really attest to those.
