Here are a couple of the toys i let go so I can buy a mooney this winter. I am debating about selling my powered parachute too to help fund the purchase of a plane and shortly thereafter starting on my instrument rating. It has all been hard to let go but know it is for the best in the long run

My condolences for your loss... I just don't know how you guys looking to sell your plane can do it.

don't come crying to me when you . . . run off the edge of the road.

Unlikely, as the demonstrated crosswind is pretty low. Unless you are itching to be a test driver. :-)

Over gross and out of CG in it is cured by diet :-)

Have had Corvettes, Porsches, Cadillacs, 4X4s, but nothing compares speed wise to flying.

Have flown jets, big and small, .88 Mach is nice (fuel burn at 12,000#/hr isn't) but Mooney speeds suffice for now.

Cars only allow me to get to the airport. My pickup works fine for that job now.

true, but driving a corvette around town is pointless.  BTW, you need to give me a yell the next time your around.

I will. BTW I met you at Ryy a few months back. I think you were dropping your daughter off. You helped me push Bravo back into the hangar.

I knew that.  You may be forgettable, but your plane isn't.   :D

Before I was able to afford airplanes I bought and fell in love with Porsches and BMW's. I sold a nearly new 911 Cabriolet that I was totally in lust with to finance the purchase of my first aircraft, a 1980 Piper Archer II. Seemed like a downgrade in some respects at the time. But it was actually a major turning point in my life. Ever since that time I've been able to sell any car without a second thought. My true loves now fly. And I've been fortunate that I've been able to trade all my airplanes so far for... other airplanes.

I had a pretty blue and white 1975 C172M, that had whisked my little family, (OK, maybe whisk is the wrong word) back and forth across the country for some years, and I finally did the math. It was costing way too much, I could rent one much like it for less, had a friend who had pestered me to sell it to him, he offered quite a bit more than I had paid, and so I sold it. The next week, I had need of an airplane, so called to reserve the rental Skyhawk that was just sitting there on the ramp, flown very little, and the FBO said, "no, our insurance won't let it go out of state." WHAT?? Talk about remorse! This seller was unhappy!

I flew commercial, cried in my beer, took care of out of state business, and grumpily returned to a phone message from my former aircraft insurance agent. He wanted to take me to lunch. We went in his lovely newish Mooney 231. I marveled at the whiz bang electronics, radar, RNAV, the 160mph groundspeed, the 900fpm climb rate, autopilot, and at the necessity to fly with fingertips only. Was in love. My friend and his partners were looking for a fourth partner, for less than I had sold the 172 for....and it cut the travel time for most of my trips in half, compared to Brand C.

So, that was 25 years ago. It was a fine bit of luck, my remorse evaporated, and I still love that machine!

Yes......32 yr ago I had a 1973 Pontiac T/A with a SD-455 I traded in on a 1978 Camaro, seen one or two of them at auction and it is sickening to see what they bring now. I think I got about 3500$ trade in value on the Camaro. When the transmission went out of the T/A my parents goated me into trading it off, they HATED that car.

Yes and no. I've traded two away and in both cases my mission changed enough to make them obsolete (for me). But hell, I'd keep them all in a giant hangar if I could.  :D

I miss the other toys, vette, bikes etc.. I don't miss trying to keep them in tip top shape. I found the upkeep (or thought of upkeep) just made me not want to get the toys out. All are sold off now except my F250 Diesel and 7741M. Less time polishing and more time enjoying. Last count was Vette #6. All sold and I think I'm done.....but on a side note that C7 Z sure looks sweet :)

So true! My father used to say that every key you add to your key chain represents another pain in the ass!

My challenge with the Vette was I didn't want to take anywhere out of fear someone would scratch it. Can't tell you the number of times I parked 30 rows away from a car and walked the mile to the store. I think my sports cars days are over. Saw my wife looking up our next vehicle already qy2edypu.jpg Wonder if they sell motorized versions...
