Is it feasible to pick up a commerical passenger at Sacramento International airport using a general aviation airplane. I just looked at a aerial photo of the airport and it sure doesn't look general aviation friendly. My Mooney could fly there quickly versus driving for over 2 hours. What are your recommendations. Also do the fbo's have a ramp charge. Maybe my passenger should take a taxi to Sacramento Exective or Davis University airport.

Sometimes I like these kind of questions. Makes me go figure it out!

I talked to Jessica at the Jet center and this is what she said.

If you fly in to pick someone up and then leave it will cost you $20 OR 10 gallons of fuel/or as much as you can take up to 10 gallons ( currently FS$6.08--not bad and 31 Cents cheaper than Sac full service). Then you have 2 options. You can either arrive earlier than your friend and use the crew car to pick them up....OR... there is a shuttle that can take them. Of course a Taxi would too i'm sure.

That number is (916)428-8292  http://airnav.com/airport/KSMF

Also, Sac international is friendly. I've done touch & Go's and approaches. They are pretty easy going. Might have to keep up your speed. Request runway 16R or 34L to get to the FBO. Hope that helps!

Actually, it is very easy to do this.  The airport isn't that busy (as compared to Vegas or Phoenix) and I've never had a problem getting in or out.

There is a shuttle bus that runs around the airport which picks up passengers to take them between terminals and the parking area...it will stop at the one FBO at KSMF if requested.

I've done this many times when I take my plane to/from Stockton...which involved a short hop from KSCK to KSMF (or backwards) with a Top Gun pilot.  I do this to get on SWA to/from Phoenix.

Me and a friend did this a few years ago we took a fellow that flew to LASAR for service we took him to Sac international and the FBO shuttled him to the terminal for a flight home. Zero problems was also my first time flying in a Mooney.

I've done this at Charlotte International  (KCLT) and Raleigh Durham.... Land, taxi to the FBO and use their crew car or shuttle to get to the terminal  and meet your passenger.  Back to the FBO, pay the fee, get a clearance and go.

Pretty simple
