Electric fuel pump 77 M20J

Recommended Posts

My plane is in for its annual inspection. One of the complaints I had was a smell of fuel in the cabin when the plane has been parked for a while.

It seems my pump is leaking. Does anyone know of a good(affordable) option to fix or replace it ?

Thanks

J

are you sure it is the pump ? The pump is under the pilot feet below the fuel selector

Close the fuel selector, let it sit for a while and see if it still smells fuel.

I am betting on a leak behind the side panels, or further in the wing that seeps back toward the cabin. Don't ask me how I would know that.

This time last year when our '78 M20J's Dukes boost pump went the way of all things aviation, we ended up getting a new pump (4140-00-19ACJ) from C J Aviation, Inc. in Kendall, FL, for approximately $1,300.

Our intention was to have the original rebuilt at a "famous" rebuilder in the west Chicago suburbs but they were unable to get parts in a timely mannor and the estimated cost was very close to that of the new pump!

We had ours overhauled for about half that cost at the company I referenced above.

Bob, lots of things have changed with regard to Dukes' predatory pricing. What's CJ's price today?

Byron,

We didn't use CJ's and we did not do an exchange.  We pulled ours out, sent it to AeroMotors in Wisconsin, they overhauled it in about 2 days and shipped it back.  The pump was out of the plane for about a week.  If I remember right it cost us something between $600 and $800 for the overhaul.
