And here's the procedure in using the override if squat switch fails to activate and gear does not retract on takeoff...

http://www.mooney.com/en/pdf/LAND_GEAR_OVRRDE.pdf

Isn't possible in these affected serial numbers to get rid of the squat switch and replace it with an airspeed switch along with the override?  Seems to me if you're going to retrifit the override why not complete the job and put in an aispeed switch.

I'm thoroughly confused by this thread....

There seem to be two issues discussed simultaneously....gear that won't  retract and gear that won't retract completely.

Added to the mix is that Mooney changed the wiring and indications several times around the 1974 time frame.  My gear system has only two lights:  green-down and amber-fully up.

The squat switch, or in other models, the airspeed swich prevents any retraction at all.  However, if the gear moves toward the retract position the systdm logic senses "airborne", or WOW (weight off wheels).

Failure to fully retract can put a strain on the electric motor (sometimes popping the gear CB because the motor is energized until the "up logic" is satisfied.

Sounds like you gear is coming part way up the time this happened.  Squat switches and airspeed switches and override switches are for when the gear won't come up at all. (the plane thinks it is still on the ground)

I would be thinking gear actuator and when it was greased last. Or your gears might need some attention.  Or the gear needs some grease.

First thing to find out is Dukes or ITT actuator.

The Up and down switches are beside the gear actuator on the rod going to the back gear.

There are two rods that work the front gear.

The pic is an ITT Actuator.  The flexible cable on the end is the emergency gear extension.

Tomorrow I may have some video of a gear swing.

Yesterday I finally got a chance to put the plane on jacks. This switch was gummed up. It stops the gear motor.  It would stay in the depressed position even after the plate no longer touched it.  Slowly, a few seconds later, the switch would revert to its fully erect position.  We cleaned it up and so far all is well.  Did about 20 gear swings on the ground.  Then went flying and I put some air loads on her.  Worked great.

good news.  You have one more relay than I do under there. What year F?  Did someone spray something in that compartment?   Mine was all dry.

Mine is a '75. We were cleaning and lubricating stuff while we had the panel open.

Look like DPST relays no less, hope you have a schematic, it looks like somebody had to replace them and marked them with numbers.
