nickmatic Posted December 12, 2013 Report Posted December 12, 2013 I'm looking for a canopy cover for my new 252. I was corresponding with someone here who had one for sale, but he hasn't responded in some time so I think it's back to the drawing board. I looked around on old threads and found the following options: Mac's Airplane Covers ($234 - $274): http://www.airplane-covers.com/Mooney%20M20.htm planecover.com ($365): http://www.planecover.com/Mooney.htm Bruce's ($520): https://www.aircraftcovers.com/general-aviation-models/mooney/201-205-231-252-and-mse The word out there seems to be that Bruce's covers are the best, but anyone have any experience with Mac's or planecover.com? Would love to know if you get what you pay for in this area... If anyone has one for sale I'd be interested as well. Thanks! Nicholas Quote
N601RX Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 I asked the same question several months ago. I ended up buying the PlaneCover from Jim and have been very happy with it. Quote
Hank Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 Plane Cover fits much better. My plane is closest with a Plane Cover; the Eagle beside my C has one from Bruce's. It won't help you, but I have a Plane Cover that fits a short body with the original windshield for sale if anyone is interested. Quote
Cruiser Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 I got one from here: http://www.airplane-covers.com/ well made of quality materials, still using it six years now, but most of the time is only overnight trips, in a hangar at home. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 I have a Planecover, Salisbury MD. Jim was a pleasure to work with. The cover looks great and the price was right. $405. for a special color. We missed allowing for a new OAT probe, Jim sent me a matching canvas "pocket" that was easy to sew into the cover. Quote

Cruiser, do you know which of their 3 materials you have? Sunbrella, Aqua Gun, SurLast? The descriptions of all 3 read basically the same, but SurLast seems to be the lightest weight. Great to here people are happy with brands other than Bruce's. Quote
Cruiser Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 nope, sorry I can't remember. It has a very heavy canvass feel to it, if that helps at all. Quote

quik flite Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 Planecover in Salisbury fit real nice, I did add extra material to completely cover the cowl , I also got cowl plugs and a bag for the cover. Quote

Yes, the price from Planecover includes a nice, oversize nylon bag. All matching my trim maroon. Quote
M016576 Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 I had a Bruce's on my last mooney: it comes with some hardware so you can clip the cover directly to the cowling using snaps. I know it's only about 2 bucks of hardware, but it's a nice touch. Quote
carusoam Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 My R is still on the planecover.com website. The photo was taken the day following near hurricane winds... My plane lives indoors now.... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

M20F-1968 Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 I have several which I accumulated while doing my rebuild. I have not had a chance to try them for size and fit. I am sure that I will have one or two to sell. Keep in touch over the next few weeks and I will know more. John Breda 1 Quote
Schinderhannes Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 We bought a cover from Mac's Airplane covers 2 yrars ago and are very happy with fit and quality. In the past we had used Bruce and we didn't feel that fit and quality matched the price. Quote

Rhumbline Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 This is an opportune thread as I too have been shopping for covers recently. I've been gravitating to Planecover as I'm familiar with Sunbrella and its characteristics. I'm wondering, however, if anyone has had theirs made with the liner to protect the windshield and windows and if it is indeed glass (colloquial nomenclature) friendly? Also, has anyone had them make an insulated cowl cover or wing covers and care to comment? Quote
N601RX Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 PlaneCover uses Sunbrella. I paid extra for the removable windshield padding and zipper around the door. When I ordered it Jim told me that I would get it in about 2 weeks. In about a week and half it showed up at my door. There was a note inside that said to make sure everything was correct for my plane and if so to send him the payment for it. He did not want any money for it until he was sure everything was correct. You will not find many business like that. Quote

yvesg Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 I have recently used the rehab service from PlaneCovers.com at $25. The cover came back with new straps and completely re-stiched. This extended the cover's life by 5 to 10 years. I prefer having two straps up front. Bruce's only has one. Yves Quote

To be fair, that one on the Eagle isn't fitted correctly - the front strap on most of the Bruce's cover attaches to snaps (with a strap underneath for safe keeping) and that should pull further forward than that. We've had good luck with Bruce's covers and generally get lots of life out of them. If there are any issues (stitching gets old in the sun, shock cord gets old with sun/age) they will replace for free -- and since they're local it's easy. Quote
rgpilot Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Plane cover will also repair any seems that come unstitched over time and they will. For $25 they restitched my entire cover and paid the return shipping. Quote
nickmatic Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 Just to follow up on this old thread, I ended up going with one from Mac's Airplane Covers. There was a problem with the fit on the cover (antenna hole in the wrong place, basically), and they not only remade it promptly for me, but also switched the side the buckles were on and changed the color for me to something that sounded like it would suit me that was not on the web site. I'm quite pleased with the new cover, and Kathy and Mac were a pleasure to work with. http://www.airplane-covers.com/ Quote
rgpilot Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Plane cover does great work. I had mine fully lined and it has lasted for well over ten years. They included cowl covers for no charge. Anything that needs resewing ever is repaired and reshipped to you for a nominal fee. Quote
TWinter Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Airplane Covers did a great job. My other half even managed to get the measurements right for last years Christmas gift for me. A total surprise. I now have the Mooney logo and phrase "We like to fly, Fly fast" embroidered on the sides near at the pilot and co-pilot widow level done in black, Looks great. Quote
