I recently discovered that the KAP 150 is not tracking the VOR in NAV mode or the localized in APR mode. The unit works fine in HDG mode so the servo's are working just fine.

My partners and I decided to pull the computer out of the panel and send it to either Autopilots Central or Mid-Continent for evaluation and I'm soliciting opinions on both outfits.

Same issue with my KFC-150.

Pulled unit, sent to Autopilots Central. Good service, honest people, would use again.

Findings were defective high voltage supply capacitor, one burned out lamp and very dirty connectors.

Cost: $673.14

All is well now.

You might save yourself some down time by having an avionics shop clean the connectors and retry the defective modes.

Previous owner and I spent a lot of time at different shops working on my KAP 150 fixing symptoms. Lancaster Avionics in Lititiz, PA fixed the problem. Sent the plane to them and they fixed the latest symptom and the problem. Reasonable and quick.

I appreciate the reply, but flying it over 1000 miles to have the A/P checked is a bit much.

Before sending the computer out verify the NAV flag is off (not visible). The NAV flag will inhibit the AP tracking mode. Clean the contacts on the computer tray and retry. If the autopilot does not acknowledge the NAV mode is most likely due to not receiving the NAV flag voltage (150mvdc). Check wiring.

The VOR is working just fine, it's tracking perfectly to the station and my VOR approaches are spot on.

I don't know where you are, but I would recommend

Precision Avionics in / at Griffin Airport, just south of Atlanta.   They did the Avionics for the AOPA plane a few years ago.
