Unfortunately due to the timing of some projects at work, I am not certain I will have the time to go to Oshkosh. Even at this point, it looks like a 50% probability I will have the time and even if I knew by the middle of the week, it probably is too late to make reservations, etc. :( So I was wondering if anyone of you who may be going would be willing to bird dog some information for me while you are there?

Here is the information I am looking for.

1) Aspen Avionics -- trying to determine the status of their ADS-B offerings. I keep hearing "third quarter", but they said that about other things that either never materialized or were much later than they projected.

2) Aspen Avionics -- they have announced a new autopilot altitude hold software for their PFD. This is different that the one they are currently selling from a German manufacturer (APS4A). It is something they are developing. Both Bob Belville and I have an interest in it. Can you find out when it is expected to be released and what the target price will be?

3) Avidyne -- it looks like they are going down a list of planes they want to target for the DFC90 digitial AP. Can you find out if Mooney is on their list and if it is, when are they planning on going after certification?

4) I'm looking for any special show pricing for the Garmin Pilot and WingX offerings. My Garmin is up for renewal in early August and my WingX trial version will end later this week.

5) I'm looking for any show prices for the GDL-39, SkyGuardTWX, Sagetech Clarity SV or Stratus 2. And for those who know, if show prices are offered, are they restricted to those only being at the show? I know I got my Garmin Pilot's "Show price" even though I didn't attend.

B26, I'm in Maine and will not get to Oshkosh. But I do have an invite from Aspen to their customer reception/presentation. I attended the one @ Sun-n-Fun and it was worthwhile. If someone sends me a msg I'll provide details. (I took my 2 traveling companions to the Lakeland thingy and they were welcome...) Bob

Good topic.  I am also not going to Oshkosh and I would be interested to hear from Avidyne their DFC900 plans.

Please also see AMSafe to learn if there is any progress toward an STC for M20J/K for the airbag seatbelts.

I have the same invitation as Bob. So... If someone would like to attend the event, let me know. I will arm with you pictures just in case they don't believe you are an Aspen customer. ;)

Okay, another one to add to the list. Now that Parker has confirmed Mooney will be there.

When are they going back into business to build the New J ?

Pick a number! I would be in for $250k. Build the airframe with basic avionics and allow an easily upgradable form factor so owners can add capabilities as funds allow. Don't build a $500k airplane that only a select few can afford.

It would be a looooong line. The basic J airframe, before any avionics was $140K in 1993, and the factory was breaking even on them, at best.

No kidding?!  Mooney will be there eh.....

Well....please ask what they are doing there and planning!  Kromer has been suggesting a J/K-refurb program and perhaps re-engine program to a diesel.

A factory refurb program would be a very cost effective way to sell J's or K's that look and smell in every way like a new airplane.

If AVEO ENGINERING is going to be there they are supposedly working on an STC for Mooney and other brands for LED lighting. There stuff looks pretty cool but I can’t seem to track down a time frame for when that might be completed

I would also be real interested in the possibility of a TD-300 turbo diesel replacement for the J/K if Mooney is there.

I would think that refurbing older airframes would make a nice niche business...

This works well for high quality process machinery as well... ( injection molders, extruders and printing machinery)

But, few really 'want' an Eagle or AT.....

The niceties of the MSE raise the price another $50k. Adding the power of a Missle is $60 k more...

Price of fuel continues to weigh on the future of aviation...

It's nice to see Cs and Es with fully upgraded panels. Proof that somebody likes this stuff.

Apologies for being off track from the OP...

Thinking out loud,

Currently a new Piper Arrow with a Lyc 4 banger and a Garmin G500 lists for $431,490.00 A Mooney would be more. A K would be even more. Neither  J or a K would be south of $500,000 The 160HP version of the Archer is $331,500.00 with the 180HP one at $341,900.00.

Would I buy a brand new Mooney when I can, and have, completely refurbished a well maintained J. I doubt it, as customizing an older airframe got me exactly what I want. Not a choice between limited factory "option packages". The paint and interior are as custom as I wanted. No dealing with allowable colors and paint schemes. The panel is very personal to me, and for the type of flying I to do today. All sorts of aftermarket "stuff" on N335BB including a LoPresti cowl and a fair number of LASAR goodies. All of this at a cost that I am sure is considerably less than a quarter of what Mooney would have to charge for a new J. Hence the problem for Mooney. There are quite a few refurbishment programs out there . Beechcraft has one. Twin Commanders have at least one refurbishing house. I believe Mooney could do a great job with Js and Ks, creating semi-custom rebuilds. The Js could easily be brought up to MSE standards (and gross weight), while Ks all become 252s with their 28,000' service ceilings. I still prefer my custom work, but I could be tempted by a factory refurbished Mooney with a reasonable warranty.

Well If anyone is available to stop at the Bendix King booth I'd like info on the just announced KSN 770 that has been touted for years but is now on Kings website as a reality. I'd like pricing and availability as well,as any possible " show specials" Thanks, much

Alright now! You all can't be sitting around drinking and wearing off hangovers! Anyone have a PIREP on the stuff we posted? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, YES, I'M YELLING NOW! ARE THERE ANY SHOW SPECIALS THAT US TOO CHEAP TO GO OURSLEVES MOONEY OWNERS CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF?

Looks like I'm gonna head up there early Friday and will do what I can to bird-dog new products and specials!  Someone on the email list reported a set of speed brakes new in the box for $2500.  Not sure if that was 1 kit or a show special.  9 lbs + 25-30 hours of labor.

It seems pretty quiet on the "new stuff" front, actually.  Avidyne still not delivering (except for crazy service plan idea), nothing new from Garmin or Aspen that I can tell, perhaps King is finally ready to deliver a new product?  Lightspeed has a new top-shelf headset.  The new EI engine monitor looks like another welcome competitor in the engine monitor arena.

The exhaust guys, power flow I think have a show special at 3900 for a J down from 4500. Wicks has 4 bottles of cam guard for 85 and sports has their hand held ils radio at 359 instead of 400.

Thanks guys. At least some of you responded to the NEW PRESIDENT OF THE MOONEY CHEAP BAST$RD CLUB. Would one of you find out about Aspen's planned release date for the ADS-B hardware? Also, any deals on ADS-B portable stuff (Garmin Pilot, ForeFlight, WingX and the antenna manufacturers)?

I stopped by all the booths mentioned and there wasn't anything special. However if you want to get some entertainment go ask the JPI boys what they think of Electronics International's new primary display. :)

Fore flight booth was jammed packed and no discount on the stratus at sporty.
