I got tired of my Mooney fuel gauges and decided to replace them with an aerlogic digital fuel gauge. For those who don't know the company (at least I did not know them until recently) here is there www side.

Good customer service and great quality. Just make sure to request a discount when you purchase something from them... (I did not and later I learned that I could have...).

 

Installation of the unit was easy. What takes a long time is calibration... You have to empty the tanks and then add 2 gallons at a time. Of course there is always something that goes wrong... and you have to start from scratch.

 

So last weekend I went flying and I tried the unit in the real world. It really works great. The only problem are the fuel senders...if they are not in good shape the indication may not be as accurate as you would hope, but that was to be expected... Mine seem to be old and not as reliable, so (as mandated by the FAA) they indicate full and empty, and in between... well....

 

Another interesting thing is that because I added a 5 gallon bladder to each side of the wing to my 26 gallons, the fuel senders consider that the tank is full as soon as it raches 26 gallons and not 31. So from 31 until I consume about 7 gallons the tank indicates "full".

 

Conclusion: despite these little observations I am very happy with the unit and I would recommend it to anybody who wants to get a better sense of how much fuel do you really have in your tanks (complemeting my jpi 830),

What was the install time-frame (hours?). Looks like a great addition for the JPI 830. I always have concern over the accuracy of the 40 yr old OEM. The JPI is accurate as long as we reset after each fill, but this looks nice and would be a great addition.

I agree it is a great addition to the 830. Instalation time was rather short. I would say about two hours, however (there is always a BUT), what is time consuming is the callibration, unfueling and refueling. That took at least another 3 hours.

Great.. Mine goes in for annual within the next couple of weeks. I have a few "extra items" I want done while it's there. I have put a call into Aerospace Logic, I'm waiting for a return call to find out the discounted price you mentioned. Would be a nice addition if pricing is right. I'll keep ya posted. Thanks.

you want their discount go on the webpage contact them over chat and ask for the web discount. First time I called was over the phone and they did not give it to me.

Neat I'll put that on my wish list. I check the fuel guages before takeoff but only because the POH and checklist say to do so. I have laready visually verified fuel in the tanks during preflight. The rest of the time I use flight time and fuel flow to know how much fuel I have used and what I have left.
