I was waiting for the "I'll send you more money than you need to buy the plane and just send a little back to me" IF this is one of those deals it is more sophisticated than most. Although I think he is talking about the accelerated depreciation rule for business use of airplanes,
Wonder how he is trying to apply the rule on an asset that can have decent residual value in 40 years. :)

Be sure you don't fool yourself into thinking that ground training is going to shake the rust off.

 

Some people who really *want* to become pilots are actually uncomfortable in the air, at the controls. So, they will often rush to buy an aircraft, thinking that will get them over the hump, so to speak, psychologically.

 

But, that is putting the cart before the horse. They eventually learn that it is much safer and wiser to take their time, get their PPL in hand, fly several different types of airplane, and *then* buy.

 

It is *very* easy to become seduced by the endorphin 'high' associated with plane shopping. But, much like seduction by a member of the opposite sex, a huge unseen 'low' can be waiting around the corner...

 

 

Good luck. You're young - you've got plenty of time - and the tax deduction will still be there next year.

Seriously - I don't know if you have the money - but Parkers plane is a real turn key so it seems.

 

But one of those very few cream-puff brokers mentioned here would be worth a call.

I actually may be in minority but I find your interest to buy this year remotely to be reasonable on the grounds you describe as long as you carefully vet the buying process.  Like I said, a buyer broker could be a way to go.

I guess I came across sort of bragging judging by the responses I got, I never asked for anything other than advice. I figured that many of you would have been in similar situations at some point so it would be OK, but I guess not. So since some of you are so sure I'm out for your credit card number why don't you just go ahead and prove yourselves right and PM it to me? :)

I would spend my time and money on trainning. You are very low time and your time is spread over years. This combined with a relatively difficult and unforgiving airplane as compared to a Cessna trainer is a recipe for problems. Tax deductions and long distance ownership problems pale in comparison to an accident. Finish your PP first and build up your experience and confidence and then you should consider purchase of a Mooney. You have plenty of time, so dont rush into a bad situation. Jim Hamilton

I’ve no wish to quell your enthusiasm but there’s an old saying from my little circle in aviation; “A fool and his money are soon flying more airplane than he can handle.”  This gentleman’s absolutely correct, take your time and make certain your competency precedes any other consideration.
