clh Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 You have some pretty long legs on that flight plan. I don't think 88 gal will cover that range. What are you doing for fuel? Quote
flyboy0681 Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 I read your story and am glad you met up with Phil Jimenez. He's a good guy and won't steer you wrong, I'll be following your progress daily and wish you good luck on your journey. Quote

Piloto Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Here is good website for your HF installation. http://www.ad4c.us/ICOM%20HF%20manuals/706%20in%20Mooney4.pdf The Icom 706 is the most popular HF radio among ferry pilots. Besides HF you can use it on the marine and aviation VHF bands. José 1 Quote

Piloto Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 what is the approval process to install an HF radio ? A&P ? IA ? field approval ? Same as for a ferry tank. On ferry flights both are field approved for the trip. If you are a licensed ham radio operator the approval is straight forward with the limitation for ham radio use in USA air space. Outside the US there is no limitation. José Quote

mooneygirl Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Let's all come welcome Jack home from his round-the-world trip in a Mooney! Date and time to be confirmed on Saturday. I believe he is in Arlington, WA on Friday night, so that shouldn't be a problem in the Ovation2 ! http://www.solo2013.com/# Quote
banjo Posted June 30, 2013 Author Report Posted June 30, 2013 I believe from the Port Agent the problem in Japan was no fuel. Lots of countries don't carry avgass and lots charge incredible prices $25 a gallon in 40 gallon lots. Flying in fuel can almost be impossible in a lot of places. Can only be shipped or road transported if there is any in that particular country. Quote
