You have some pretty long legs on that flight plan.   I don't think 88 gal will cover that range. What are you doing for fuel?

Will be putting a 50 or 60 gallon tank in the back seat?

it is the turtle pack you will go with or are there other options ?

I am interested in hearing what paperwork you need to get through to get that installed.

Safe flights ...

what is the approval process to install an HF radio ? A&P ? IA ? field approval ?

Same as for a ferry tank. On ferry flights both are field approved for the trip. If you are a licensed ham radio operator the approval is straight forward with the limitation for ham radio use in USA air space. Outside the US there is no limitation.

He should have been almost back by now according to his plan. I wonder if he is having some mechanical problems or something.

THe legs from Northern Japan to adak alaska was the one I was concerned about...instrument approach into adak not that good and not a lot of options in case of a missed..

now his location has been in the middle of a river in northern japan..no movement for 24hrs!!Did he forget to charge his tracker!!
Wouldn't surprise me. When he started his trip he forgot his passport and got stuck in Canada until they could ship it to him...

Let's all come welcome Jack home from his round-the-world trip in a Mooney!  Date and time to be confirmed on Saturday. I believe he is in Arlington, WA on Friday night, so that shouldn't be a problem in the Ovation2 !  http://www.solo2013.com/#

I believe from the Port Agent the problem in Japan was no fuel.

Lots of countries don't carry avgass and lots charge incredible prices

$25 a gallon in 40 gallon lots.

Flying in fuel can almost be impossible in a lot of places.

Can only be shipped or road transported if there is any in that particular country.
