flyboy0681 Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 I'm planning a trip to Hilton Head for a few days and would like to know if there are any other FBO's on the field other than Signature Aviation. Just about every review I've read about them at this airport (with little exception) is horrid. It's clear to me that they don't want to deal with single engine aircraft. Quote
laytonl Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 We go to Hilton Head a lot and I have found the FBO to be excellent. Great service. Their rental cars are a little pricey (Enterprise) so I rent a car from Budget over at the main terminal and I call the FBO before departure and they call Budget and have the rental car ready when I arrive. I've never had a problem with this FBO. The Sea Shack (Executive Dr) is a great place to eat lunch. It's a dump, but the food is good. The Red Fish is great for high-end dining. Catch-22 is good mid-priced dinner. Enjoy the visit, Lee N201BN Quote

rbridges Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 I don't know about car rentals, but Signature has always been nice to deal with IMO. The tower guys have also been friendly. Quote
tyrefoote Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I've never had a problem with Signature Hilton Head being unfriendly toward single engine GA, However they are pricey Quote
lahso Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Never had a problem with Signature at KHXD, either. They treated us well at the line and front desk. Quote
jackn Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I had a positive experience as well. Tower folks were helpful as well. Quote
flyboy0681 Posted July 23, 2012 Author Report Posted July 23, 2012 Here are two (of many) reviews that I have read. The same theme runs through a lot of them. I don't agree with the comment about company philosophy since I fuel up at Signature at my home base and they run a good show. #1 No problem with the service just the same old problem with Signature. Company philosophy is wrong headed. No wonder their business model is to monopolize. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to tell the customer how much fuel they have to buy in order to avoid the excessive ramp fee. I will continue to refuse to purchase fuel at any Signature. #2 Landed for 24 hours, they charge me $80 ramp fee and $ 200 handling fee no one met the plane or moved to cones when we left. They moved the plane about 100 feet and chocked it. Offered no discount on the $7.69 fuel. I am a C-90 not G-IV. We will never go to this airport or a Signature FBO again Of course these could be anomalies. Quote
rbridges Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I've only been there maybe 4 or 5 times, but they've always had someone meet me with a cart and offer a ride. I think they're on the expensive side, but I kinda expect that for Hilton Head. Quote
John Pleisse Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 No problems in my two trips there. I, too, did Enterprise. I recall ground parking me on the opposite side of the field from the terminal, so there was some confision telling Enterprise exactly where to come. I also recall the field being pretty busy (for it's size and proximity to Savannah-Beuafort, etc.). A lot of 1900's, Dash 8's and biz jets. Quote

Seth Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I have been there once and it was a good trip. It was about two years ago and I was treated just fine. We did not rent a car as I just took a taxi to the hotel. I figured after getting the taxi bill (and using a taxi one of the evenings) that I'd rent a car next time, but after hearing the prices of the car, it looks like I made out ahead with the Taxi. Fuel was expensive, but I was not charged a handling fee - I may have even had one night of parking waived due to the fuel purchase, but again, that was two years ago and a lot has changed. -Seth Quote
1964-M20E Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I have flonw into SAV before and will be there next week. I have used Sheltair and they are resonalbe on tie downs and no fuel reqirement. They have Hertz onsite as well. You can also fly into Fort Stewart LHW fuel is much cheaper but no on site rentals and longer drive if you are going to SAV.
