Help in identifying this part - Ovation

So I was lovingly cleaning the big O and rubbing it down with a diaper (lol) after another XC from Vegas to Houston and back when I noticed this (pic below). Any idea the specific part I need to order? I’m great flying, cleaning and talking about my plane but I’m not particularly mechanically inclined (my A&P is on speed dial). Any help would be appreciated !!!! I think I can handle this one myself !

You should have a few spares of those. You can see some have already been replaced because some are straight and some are Phillips.

I kind of like the straight blade fasteners because you can tell if they are fastened properly by looking at the slot, but the Phillips are easier to put in.

As for the part number, it is the time in your airplane ownership journey that you learned to use the IPC.

What you have missing there is a Camloc. I don't know exactly the size for the M20R, taking a look at the IPC.

If you don't feel comfortable going through the Illustrated Part Catalog, I guess many here in MS or your AP could tell you which size you need.

So I found an IPC and it seems to be a 2700-3S STud and a 2600W2 Washer??

@N201MKTurbo is right that you should have a few spares.  And I would buy one longer and one shorter. - a -2 and a -4.  These planes are hand made.  The actual thickness of the composite might have varied or paint built up, etc.

If you're able to look at the head of the fastener, it should have the size stamped on it and as mentioned, get a few longer and shorter. 

One other recommendation, go with the flathead and not the phillips. Flat head is much easier to visually see if a lock is not seated as all the screw heads will be parallel when seated.  Only downside is you have to be more careful turning the screw as the driver can slip easily and scratch the paint, don't ask me how I know... 

They sell a fastener that has an adjustable depth, haven't tried it but sounds like it could come in handy to cover a wide range of thickness.

@NickG if you zoom in on the face of the camloc there's a number that corresponds to the length.  Those look small enough that they're probably 2700's.  So if the number on the face is "3" for example, it's a 2700-3.

Another quick and easy way to order the right one is to find one that is clearly marked on the face, then use it in the place you need and see if it fits.

There are two types of washers that can be used, but you don't "have" to use a washer.  I think under a certain size, or with certain applications, you might not be able to fit a washer.  These washers work on both the 2700 and 2600 camlocs.

SW-2: split washer, allows the camloc to pull back but the washer keeps the horizontal posts at the end from coming out.  So retention is loose.

LW: the starred lock washer that grips around the barrel of the camloc and secures the camloc to the surface of the piece it's used in.  See the Anemo document linked for a better description.

Thanks for all of the help. I’ve ordered a few Camlocs and washers based on everyone’s recommendations and they’ll be here in a few days. I’ll update when I get them and try them on!
