ignition wiring route

I don't like the way the spark plug wires are routed- they curve across the oil filter, and when I did my first oil change, I could see how they had worn off some of the white on the oil filter. Seems like this type of abrasion will just lead to future trouble.

I'm doing an oil change soon, not sure if there is enough length to rout it under the fuel filter. Was wondering about suspending them to pull the m away from the filter, or, putting a protective sleeve over the wires.

Any thoughts?

They are supposed to go into the hole in the baffling. Six of the eight are anyway. the two bottom plugs on the pilots side go straight from the mag to the cylinders. 

The four top plugs go through that hole along with the two lower wires for the copilots side. The lower wires on the right side go out through the two wire grommet to the bottom plugs. All the copilot side wires should be routed under the rear baffle support bracket.

I see you have a non-standard ignition system for a J. So all bets are off.

You should at least have some spiral wrap on them I would think.

I also have a SureFly however my wiring is routed similarly as you describe. It replaces magneto and it should be connected to the box. Spiral wrap would be a good thing.

anyone knows what the part number for the ignition harness is for the dual mag ? I believe the Bendix part number is 10-821414-8 but this may be superseded or has other PMA part numher

Just order a harness from Maggie, they will get you the right one.

The Kelly PN is 10-821414-6R.     FWIW, the outer sheathing on the Kelly harnesses seems to be a bit too soft and some people (incl. me) have seen the outer sheath wear off under abrasion.    It is otherwise a good harness, and if you are able to add some additional protection in pass-throughs and around other abrasion opportunities it'd probably be fine.    I'm still running mine and other than looking like crap in a few places it functions fine.
