In the process of reinstalling the landing gear after sand blast, prime ,paint and new shock dampers all around. One of the six rear main truss mounting bolts is stripped it won’t tighten!
I don’t want to reinvent the repair process so I’m looking for the proper repair information

Thank you in advance

Please post a picture.

I don’t have a picture with me.
its the mount for the aft side of the landing gear where the gear pivots when the gear is lowered or retracted.

six bolts holding it to the wing.

I think I found the correct pages.  It looks as though they are nut plates, you will probably have to remove that main gear truss to replace it.

I posted the M20J manual above because it’s clearer than the M20C manual.  The parts are the same.

Yes, I believe they are nut plates but their located aft of the rear rib .

I have the complete landing gear removed and the aft landing gear mounting plate. The mounting bolts go through the wing structure and the nut plates are on the aft side, not accessible from the landing gear side.

Hopefully you can get at it either from the access panel behind the gear well or the one by the landing gear spring.  Not sure if there’s access through that one.  Sorry, it’s not going to be easy.

If you can get a new one in, you’ll definitely need to use Cherry #40 countersunk pop rivets.  Or maybe get a nut on the backside with a magnet.

Is the bolt brand new?  Sometimes that helps (along with being real gentle tightening it).  Good luck.

From my initial look it’s not accessible from any inspection hole or the gear well.  That’s why I’m here, hoping someone has experience with the same issue. It can’t be the only mooney that has experienced  a stripped landing gear mounting bolt.

This is the sort of thing that Don Maxwell probably knows.  He’s usually very forthcoming with information like this.  Worth a call.

Problem solved

drilled out the stripped nut plate rivets from the wheel well side and pulled a new nut plate in through the nearest inspection hole (three feet from the mounting spot for the new nut plate) behind the rear rib/spar.

Thanks for the follow-up!
