It's taken me 2 1/2 weeks to get here. I removed about 35 pounds of avionics and abandoned wire, really cleaned things up. I've got my JPI EDM 930 wired up now, except for the EGT sensors and the power. Exhaust is out for repair so it'll be a few weeks before I get that back in and I'm waiting on the new panel and avionics wire harness to get the power hooked up.

It looks like a mess now, once it get it all finished up though, everything will be tidy and organized. I got a handy dandy shrink wrap label printer so I can label every wire I touch on both ends. That is going to save a ton of time for anyone that works on this later.PXL_20230831_183731608.jpgPXL_20230830_193038139.jpgPXL_20230829_190251857.jpg

bcg What's the panel plan, 6 pack or glass?
I'm adding a 2nd G5, replacing a Narco MK12D with an SL30 and getting rid of the Icarus SAM GPSS in favor of the G5 HSI. The JPI replaces all the legacy engine gauges, it'll be much cleaner and better organized.

@bcg Nice!!

The shop has had my '65 since August 13th. Goodbye shotgun panel to an 8 pack. GI275 HSI w/ GMU11, GNC355, GNC255, GI275 CDI, GTX327, EI CGR-30P & C and of course a new custom panel.

Really nice guys.  Do you have autopilots driving these upgrades?  My new to me E is heavily modded on exterior, but just has a functioning pc wing leveler and Aspen.  I am VFR so having a nice engine monitor was important.  Just bought an edm830 to put in pilot 8 pack.  I am OK with functioning narco digital radio and will be adding a stereo ps engineering 8000 audio panel.  A 796 on my co-pilot (wifes side).  I am losing an old Bendix King GPS.  Will be adequate for my mission (vfr flights of 400-500 miles.

I've got a 2 axis STec 50 with altitude hold. It's enough for me.

@Echo An autopilot would've been a nice luxury, but my plane had a greater need for the upgrades I listed. Initially, replacing the Garwin cluster with a monitor was all I thought would be necessary short term. After a while it became very apparent it would need far more, and sooner, to get it where I wanted it to be. It's the risk of buying a nearly 60 year old airplane - stuff is just going to break, and at inconvenient places and times. Rather than do a little bit at a time I elected the "pay once, cry once" path & addressed all of the known & most likely future issues. It wasn't going to get any cheaper to do if I waited. My longest flights are usually in the 3 hour range, and in VFR, so not having an A/P isn't really much of a hardship. Truth be told I've never flown a single engine airplane equipped with an autopilot, so there's that too. You can't miss what you've never had.

Funny, my project started as just adding an EDM 930. Then I decided I wanted to move some stuff around and before I knew it, I was doing all the labor to get the panel exactly how I wanted it and the only additional expense to actually do it was another G5 and an SL30. At that point, it would have cost a lot more to do it later so, I decided to suck it up and get it all done at once.

The takeaway here is don't install an engine monitor unless you want to redo your whole panel.

My last annual felt more like this:

I'm starting to feel that way myself...most of it is avionics though so, I've got nobody to blame but myself.

I’ve been looking at them. Which unit did you buy?
