A CC with a good reward program works for any purchase, including avgas.    Our local self-serve vendor offers their own reward program with a card that allows pre-purchase and just saves you the card fees, which is something like 25 cents a gallon or something (I don't use it).

My Citi Visa treats the self-serve pumps like a fuel purchase and gives me 4% back. If it is full service from the truck it doesn't count but swiping at the self-serve pump it doesn't seem to know the difference from that and a regular gas station. If you have a card that offers cash back on fuel give it a try at the self-serve.

4% straight would be great. AOPA has good rebates, but anything over the base 1% is considered “bonus” points and that is capped at $100/year.

It's just the standard Costco Citi Visa card. 4% on the first $7k in fuel. Our Amex does 3%. Works at the self serve but not off the truck billed through the FBO.

Interesting. My Costco Visa card doesn’t treat my GA fuel purchases as “fuel.” I wonder if it’s specific to certain FBOs.

I suspect that some of this is self-categorization by other cardholders. I once put a pretty expensive annual inspection on a credit card and got something like 3x points because it was a “fuel” purchase. I couldn’t come up with any reason the FBO would be considered “fuel” unless someone had been marking their purchases in the “fuel” category. Dunno

If you let me use your card, I can try it out over here and you could let me know if you get the points. :D

My local drome fuel sales comes up as "City of Alexander City AL" which hardly sounds like fuel. But if yours comes up as Shell Aviation Center or some such, then extra fuel points are more likely.
