Htmlkid Posted June 11, 2023 Report Posted June 11, 2023 Im about to purchase an M20J 205 with an upgraded IO 390 engine and Im looking to see if anyone has a performance profile for this setup? 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted June 11, 2023 Report Posted June 11, 2023 Well, it seems from the new model number that it goes 4 MPH faster. Quote
Pinecone Posted June 11, 2023 Report Posted June 11, 2023 Search. There are several threads on this and some other boards about the IO-390 conversion. But think of this, a 231 and 252 are 210 HP also. So should be similar to them down low, but is not much difference. You need a LOT of HP to go faster. Quote
Ragsf15e Posted June 11, 2023 Report Posted June 11, 2023 It climbs a bit better and you get a couple of knots more. At cruise power, you’ll only have ~7 more hp. Roughly. From the other folks on here, the change was noticeable mostly in climb. Less so in cruise. It’s a newer design and has all the improvements incorporated into the newer versions of the io-360. 1 Quote
Pinecone Posted June 12, 2023 Report Posted June 12, 2023 I see that IO-390 as a super idea going from a 180. Like the Extreme Decathlon. Super is AEIO-360 180 HP, Extreme is AEIO-390 210 HP. 30 HP is a HUGE difference in take off and climb performance. And vertical performance for aerobatic aircraft. Quote
Igor_U Posted June 15, 2023 Report Posted June 15, 2023 Yes but for M20F that is only 5% increase in the power which equals 1.6% increase of the speed. Climb performance would be noticeable, though. 1 Quote

It's limited to 5 minutes above 200hp as well. Quote
