I’ve been creeping around for a portable o2 system for awhile. I probably won’t use it a ton, but in an effort to get above most of the summer time puffy clouds in the South, I may find it more useful than I thought. I don’t really like cruising above 10k without oxygen for any amount of time, just bc I know I’m a bit sensitive to the thin air.
anyway, I’ve got some cannulas and such and occasionally borrow someone else’s bottle. It’s sort of a lot. Hoses, big bottle, etc. I’m alright with all of that, I was just hoping to glean some strategy and tricks.

A.) What’s the right bottle size? Long and skinny or short and fat? (Jokes welcomed)

B.) where do you put your bottle/affix

C.) Pics of configuration would be neat

i think I’ll spring for the 02D2 system, so it’s just left with which bottle to buy and what’s a good way to manage all of the equipment

i won’t be running oxygen with more than 2 people I don’t think.

I sort of envy a smaller bottle for better clutter management, but also don’t want to fill it after a single trip.

any insight is appreciated

I have a 2 place one with cannulas.  I’m not sure it’s volume, but it lasts a very long time with cannulas and it’s not that big.  There’s likely no way around the clutter.  I’m not a fan either. I usually just put my bottle on the co pilot seat (if solo) or the back seat.  I like to be able to see and adjust the flow meters and check the pressure.  My flow adjustment is on the regulator attached to the bottle, so a back of the seat holder would only work on the co pilot seat but I have not tried that.

You definitely want a good finger pulse oximeter if you don’t have one.

I’ve posted this before. Here is how I solved the clutter problem. I bought some extra tubing and push connectors on eBay and routed the tubes behind the panel. Tube to the tank runs behind the pilot side wall.
I used short piece of spiral wrap to attach the tube to the headset cord.

I think one of the benefits of the 92d2 system is it beeps if your breathing becomes irregular and the sound of the puff of air lets you know it’s working so you over time learn that you don’t have to hawk the regulator so much and as you get used to the reduced amount of o2 used would probably only need to check the pressure about as often as switching tanks.

How is the O2D2 box attached to the pedestal?

I velcroed mine to the glare shield.  I want it in plain view to see the green LED blink.

I bought some stick on clips to control the tubing and the power cord.  It doesn't hide them, but it will keep them under control

I wonder if, when I do the panel, they can put a pocket in the panel to hold it.  Not install it, but just hold it with the face flush the tubes routed to behind the panel.

I got my O2 bottles here
https://www.prorackgasproducts.com/gas-cylinders

you can get a CGA540 valve if you want to use an industrial regulator and your own cannulae, that way you technically should not need a prescription to get oxygen (although many medical supply stores will still demand one anyway)

This is the CGA540 regulator I use.  Hard to find, and I didn't get it from the place:
https://www.promolife.com/cga-540-industrial-oxygen-tank-regulator/

FWIW, I would NOT go into the flight levels with this setup, that should be left to prebuilt or certified systems
