Hi have the following for sale from a 28V 252:

6) KEA130A altimeter

7) KI525A system

8) KI256 Flight Director

Alan,

How easy is it to install a kas297B….   :)

Thinking out loud.

Best regards,

You'll also need the KEA-130A encoding altimeter that @Aerodon has for sale if you don't already have one.

replacement , or install

Fresh install…

I have the complete BK system, short two items…

No FD…

No altitude hold…

GPSS would be a newer upgrade that came after my plane was built…

When I was IFR current… biggest fear was missing an altitude level off…  very easy to be too distracted to notice in a timely way… (scan atrophy)

It would make sense to add, if it is a simple wiring job… addition.

Not very sensible if it requires chasing other bits and pieces…

The panel has the open space, but no cutout for it… probably needs a CB switch added in the panel to support it.

In 1996 I bought a Bravo that didn't have a Flight Director, so the A/P was a KAP150 not a KFC150. But it did have Altitude Pre-Select, one of the only ones I've seen that way (without a F/D yet had pre-select).

It was the first time I had used pre-select and that feature is great not only on the way up but the way down too. I never upgraded to a FD, but later after I sold it to Jimmy Garrison he added a FD (and upgraded to a KFC150) and flew the airplane for at least 6 years.

Back in 1996 the factory charged $4790 for the pre-select option. Since these units are coming on the used market frequently, pre-select should be able to be installed pretty reasonably now.

I had a KAP200 changed to a KFC200 - needed a new board in the A/P computer, changed the KG258 for a KI256 indicator and changed the mode controller.  Cost a few thousand in 2001, but well worth the effort.  No altitude capture ovalaible on that version of the KFC200.

I would think that a FD on a KFC150 would be an easy upgrade.  And probably not too difficult to do a KAS297 vertical speed with altitude capture.  First step is to look at the dash numbers and buttons on the autopilot controller.

I would do it.

My 252 is KAP150 with KAS-297B.  So there are a few planes out there this way.
