Since so many of my potential safety pilots either went BasicMed or just don't like me, I just went ahead and did 6 approaches by myself.

For example, you schedule your Class3, if nice AME ask him/her to complete entire exam before logging in. According to AME test begins when he logs in.  This way, let’s say your vision was off because you didn’t memorize the letters which some savvy ppl have suggested, not mentioning any names—Hank, then there can be NO failure if he/she has not logged in.  Pay the fee, Fix the eyes and go back. If AME logs in, and any part is not satisfactory FAA is now involved.

You picked the wrong random name, I don't know the eye chart and never tried to memorize it. I'm nearsighted enough that my last Class III said vision correction was required, but I can still power-squint for the state patrol and my driver's license is "no restrictions."

i went Basic Med because after I relocated, I don't like the AME and didn't like driving 40 miles to his office and sitting an hour in a waiting room full of sick babies, children and their mothers. Besides the undesired exposure to Lord only knows what, everyone looked at me funny, an adult man with papers in his hand, no child or female in sight, surrounded by kids and their mothers . . . .

Went to Doc-in-a-box [local urgent care], dropped in for a quick discussion and left the AOPA package for them to review. Called back, made an appointment and stopped in on my way home, which was right past their building anyway.

I keep a Class 3.    I hope to fly into Canada some day.

I keep a class 1 at the 24 month renewal which automatically drops to a class 3 in month 12 of that cycle.  The following year I re-up with another class 1.   And I am a Canadian in my 69th year.

Meanwhile, in the 121 world, it looks like they'll be flying longer and longer:

Retirement Age Legislation
We have recently learned that legislation could be introduced to increase the mandatory retirement age from 65 to 67, or possibly 68. The SWAPA Government Affairs Committee (GAC) is closely monitoring the issue and working with our industry partners to determine the road ahead. This has occurred rather rapidly, and we expect to see the legislation at any time.

Im never going to get to retire now...

Also I keep a 1st class, mainly due to work.

It’s what you end up having to do when your friends are on BasicMed and can’t stop making up excuses like TFRs and illnesses they don’t have!

Same here, but the MDVIP annual slips a little every year since they seem to not like to do it until 12 months have passed, but the FAA stuff doesn't slip.   So now I have to do a mini-physical for the Basic Med and then come back for my MDVIP annual exam.   It'll slip a little more in the next four years, etc.   I was hoping it'd work out to keep those synched, but it hasn't.

Basic med exam is every 4 years.  So your 3rd exam, you get the doc to do the form.  Or every other one.

The training is every 2 years.

I am a MDVIP client also.

I keep a Class 3…I still want to fly in the flight levels from time to time.

Forgot about that one.  I will need to get a real medical if I buy a 252. :D

How old are you? getting a deferral or a denial on a Class 3 will put a long pause in your flying.  It took me years after an illness to get to the point where I could even reapply, even though I was quite healthy.  I reapplied and got a deferral,  and  have been waiting a year.  it'll be at least another 4 months

Being a buffon as the job of safety pilot is merely to meet the see and therefore avoid, what does medical class have to do with it?

Regulations requiring medical certification for required crew members. And the BasicMed limitation that it only applies to pilots acting as PIC.

I will work with my AME and my primary care doc.

I understand the possibilities.
