Chris White ex-N205KD Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Holy schnikeys! Check out the duration of this Mooney flight:http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N6577U/history/20090821/1155Z/KCJR/KLXTRegistration says it's a '62 C-model. He's in the middle of a nearly 6-hour flight right now. And I thought my 6-hour trip to Naples was long - with a 4-year old! Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 He did the reverse a couple days ago in 7 hours and 1 minute...plus whatever time he wasn't being tracked! Quote
Piloto Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 It could have been either O&N bladders (64 gallons) or the Monroy tanks (88 gallons total). On my M20J I have 100+ gallons total with the Monroy tanks. That gives me 1,500nm range with reserve. I also have the bladder 2 gallons range extender. José Quote
Mooney13 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I have the Monroy long range tanks (M20J) and they are nice for (real) long range, but I typically do not need them and I find it tough to keep track of the accurate fuel level when the fuel equalizes between tanks. Maybe there is something I am missing??? Quote

rob Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I made about a 750nm leg in my 1965 M20C with the standard 52 gal tanks and not much help from the wind. From S27 to KBBW, had 7 gallons left when I put her down... You've gotta love the flexibility of these birds. Quote
29-0363 Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 In an Ovation GX3 with standard (102 USG) tanks: 6:31 Flight time, 1177 NM, 180 Kts GS About the same distance from New York to Dallas Fort Worth. carusoam Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 For the real long distance flights… Find the Mooney that went CA-GA non-stop… Took a couple of tries to get the weather just right… Best regards, -a- Quote

I haven’t seen anything similar… @201er I’m nominating you and your extended range J 1400nm Denver to Linden, NJ in 9 hours or upwind 1320nm Linden to San Marcos, TX in 11 hours and over 85 gallons used. Also done a bunch of 7-9 hour flights like Phoenix to Chicago, Linden to Winnipeg, Linden to Goose Bay, Belize to San Andres Colombia, Lubbock TX to Linden, Phoenix to St Louis, Linden to Key West, Florida to Virgin Islands, and a bunch more. 3 Quote
GeeBee Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 The original owner of my airplane flew it LAS-PIT non-stop at FL230, non turboo 1 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 I did back to back 6 hour flights, my fuel stop was so brief that FlightAware recorded it as 1 flight.I was racing a front, and lost, ended up waiting a day for it to pass. Quote
rbp Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 Can I count this 7 hour 59 minute flight in a glider? 3 Quote

rotorman Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 Many years ago I made a trip from Chester CT to Montgomery AL in my 20J. That shows as 860 nm. I remember having no problem making it with reserve. I had it lean of peak the whole way burning about 8 gal/hr. In those days I could sit there for all that time. Today, not so much. Quote

Diablo at 17,500 said he did not want to get tangled up in entering Class A. I think he ended up landing in Temecula. Impressive what the glider folks do. Quote

Yes the prevailing winds in the Bay Area are out of ~300. But sometimes there’s a strong north flow and they have to turn SFO around and land runway 19. This can set up wave on the coastal and inland hills, making these flights possible. Quote
