Bose a20 plugs

Wondering if I should get the powered 5 pin plug just in case someday I’ll want it and use an adaptor for the 2 plug. Have others done this? Seems less limiting than just getting the 2 plug.

I enjoy having my headset (Lemo) powered by aircraft.  The  kit to do so is not difficult to install.

When I do fly a plane with standard 2 plugs headphone jacks, I have a battery powered headset adapter for my Lemo plug.

But that defeats the purpose of having ship powered headsets.

I think you can get them rewired by Bose as well if you decided to change plugs in the future.

FWIW, Batteries last about 50 hours in the A20s.

No, I know, but if you had one already, or if you had a great deal on one with GA plugs, the adaptor makes it possible to use a GA headset with a Lemo jack.

Like you i go from my own plane with lemo to others without lemo plugs. I think the ideal solution is the Bose with Lemo plug, the two plug adapter to plug into other aircraft.
Not only does it give me the advantages of being powered with the lemo, but when I also need to use my microphone equipped mask up high I merely plug in the mask Mike plug next to the Lemo. Then my mask mike takes over while keeping the Bose still powered by the Lemo. My aircraft has the Lemo socket right next to the conventional 2 Jack's.

I have A20's with a lemo and I use the twin plug adapter in my C model.  I intend to install Lemo jacks for them when I upgrade the panel.  Unlike the previous model the A20's all have the same pendant and can hold batteries (A10 Lemo had a small pendant that did not allow you to power so you  would have to use a separate box if using A10s Lemo plug with twin plug adapter).   I have had no issues with using the GA twin plug adapter with my A20's

I have lemo plugs in my plane, so does the A20. However, I tried the 2 plug adapter but I only get sound on one ear. Probably a mono/stereo thing. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

During a big panel upgrade over the winter, I had lemo plugs added up front, so now I have both options. I like Lightspeed headsest, so I have a Zulu 3 with a lemo connector that lives in the airplane, and another two-plug version that lives in my flight bag for passengers or when I'm in another plane.

I also like having a twin-plug version available as a backup. In the unlikely event of a total electrical failure, losing ANR would be an extra distraction, but tolerable. If you hope to utilize a cell phone in such a scenario to call an approach facility, bluetooth pairing with your headset is a nice option that goes away when the headset loses power. And lastly, I have a handheld radio with an adapter for a 2-plug headset that would be useful in a COM failure.

But it's a nice quality of life improvement to stop worrying about batteries for the headset, and for the control housing to weigh much less.

The A20 is selectable between Mono and Stereo.   If you remove your batteries in the pendant there are little dip switched located in the bottom of the battery slot that you can switch between stereo and mono input to the headset.

I have the lemo plug and just bought a pair of passive David Clark headsets with the two prongs as a backup. Just seemed like a good idea to have a simple,versatile backup.

You don't also have the ability to just drop a couple batteries in the control box of your Zulus even with the Lemo plug? I just put a couple AA batteries in my A20 since I move from plane to plane anyway as an instructor and in my plane if I did have an electrical power failure my Bose is still powered.

Nope. That's one downside of the Lightspeeds. You get lemo plug with no battery compartment, or dual plugs with a battery compartment. They don't make an adapter for either direction.

So plugging the mask mic into the GA socket should override the Lemo mic circuit? Someone must have wired mine incorrectly. I bought a Lemo to GA adapter and I have to use that and run the A20 on batteries when I wear my O2 mask, which is a bit of a pain. Are there schematics available that show how it should be wired to work correctly?

Do you have recommendations by any chance? Ive been looking for a battery powered headset adapter for lemo-2plug but haven't been able to find any online.

I think it’s 200$ to have the module to swap from one to the other. It’s one screw and an easy swap. 
 

or, I’d say Lemo with the dual adapter.

I did not purchase a unit. I made a couple of units myself with parts I had in the hangar.  .
