toto Posted July 4, 2021 Report Posted July 4, 2021 Sheez. I've got to say that "engine out at night over inhospitable terrain" is probably the scenario that most makes me think "yeah, I can see how a person would want a BRS." 3
M016576 Posted July 4, 2021 Report Posted July 4, 2021 Looks like he was able to land on a highway.. that can be challenging to identify at night with low illumination. Impressive work- glad everyone is OK! 2 1
ArtVandelay Posted July 4, 2021 Report Posted July 4, 2021 Looks like he was able to land on a highway.. that can be challenging to identify at night with low illumination. Impressive work- glad everyone is OK!The plus side is this Wyoming…so traffic I would expect to be minimal. I’ve thought about this, I think the option would be to aim for charted bodies of water. To me urban areas would most dangerous:

That must have been very loud and exciting! If it seized right away there might not have been much action to sling it out, but it's definitely notable. In some of the pics there's oil on the cowl and the windscreen, but not a ton. The pics of the engine failure at NY (last year?) had oil freaking everywhere, but I think it was either windmilling or still making some power for some time after the crankcase ventilation was achieved. 1
Guest Posted July 5, 2021 Report Posted July 5, 2021 It looks like cylinder #1 connecting rod failed. Clarence

That must have been very loud and exciting! Don't think oil everywhere but some oil somewhere. There is pressurized oil up there and unless it sized the oil pump moves along of oil with one rotation. 1

arikanoandy Posted July 9, 2021 Report Posted July 9, 2021 That is a new camshaft preflight inspection access point.
steingar Posted July 9, 2021 Report Posted July 9, 2021 If my engine takes a dump over hostile terrain I assume Odin has decided I belong in Valhalla. I get it down with a whole skin I'll chalk that up to my mad piloting skilz. 1
