dooleypster Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 1989 J MSE has a stall warning going off continuously from the initial turn-on of the battery switch. Moving the stall vane seems to have no effect. Cycled CB on and off, still no luck. Ideas? Quote

dooleypster Posted May 18, 2021 Author Report Posted May 18, 2021 OK, thanks....I'll go look for that. Would that be anywhere near the speakers? Quote
moosebreath Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Pull the stall horn breaker AND the gear horn breaker to stop it. It is crazy but that is how the wiring is done. After that you likely need a new microswitch in the stall warning vane. They are a standard part available from Mouser for less than $10. Alternatively a new part from the manufacturer is around a grand. Use the forum search function. This has all been discussed before. You will find discussion and applicable part numbers. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 In the early 90s... Mooney went with tones instead of Sonalert buzzers in some models... The ‘94 O has tones... +1 for finding the pics of the stall switch... somebody posted all the details to rebuild one... and there is a full follow-up on if that is a legal fix or not... +1 for Rich’s explanation on how the Sonalert scan set themselves off... this is probably true for both the buzzer and the tones... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- Quote
dooleypster Posted May 18, 2021 Author Report Posted May 18, 2021 Many thanks to Moosebreath, carusoam and N201MKTurbo for your help. I did as you suggested with the CBs, that's how I decided it was stall warning over gear warning. Now on to the search function....thanks again. Quote

PT20J Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Later M20Js have a tone generator for the gear and stall warning that drives an overhead speaker rather than a sonalert. I’d start at the stall warning vane. It’s position is adjustable to set activation speed so mark it first. Skip 1 Quote

The gear one is the tall one that makes an intermittent beep. It should be distinct. But I've flown in a lot of customer's Mooneys where the gear warning was bad and just made a steady tone. In that case the sonalert should be replaced. -Robert Quote

The stall vane on the wing provides a ground to activate the horn. A failed switch or a wire shorted to ground, or as Rich mentions above the horn contacting the skin can cause the horn to sound continuously. Clarence Quote
