I have had  a few blown bulb issues lately

I need a new tail strobe And the original replacement units are not cheap.  I had a recommendation for a led unit.

I also lost a taxi light recently and to be honest those units draw a lot of power and the bulbs did not last all that long.

so I’m wondering ,is it time to go fully led???

I’m posting for advice but here is a critical point for me.  I want the brightest landing  and taxi lights possible for me to see when night flying. Then   I want to be able to be seen by others  at night and in the day time. I want something that is going to really ensure the plane is highly visible in busy airspace

Pete, Sounds like you are wearing out a bunch of bulbs... :)

nothing beats the Whelens, unless price is the driving force...

When it comes to Long Body lighting... @StevenL757has given his recommendation in the past...

or @OSUAV8TERcan give his insight...

everything but recog lights... that’s still in the works...

Best regards,

Aeroleds are the brightest Landing and taxi lights. Whelen make great nav strobe light combo. If you want the cool factor, aveo has the crystal conforma.

Xevision is an alternate part for installation of HIDs on a Bravo..  A factory production drawing exists that could be used for a basis of a 337.  Do things in the proper order if you do this.  Get the drawing write up a 337, go see if your local FSDO will approve.

I am a Whelen Aerospace Technologies (WAT and formerly Whelen) authorized dealer. For your tail light, I have the Orion 500, which is a white LED navigation light and white LED strobe light. For your wingtips I have the Orion 650E, which has a red or green LED position light and white LED strobe light. As part of the installation you remove the strobe power supply but you can repurpose your existing wiring. Install time is probably a couple hours by an A&P. The lights are FAA TSO approved as an approved night position light and an anti-collision light system. The pathway to installation is a logbook entry as a minor alteration by your A&P.

For your landing and taxi lights, assuming they are in your wings, they are the PAR-36 size (4.5 inches in diameter). You could do two Parmetheus Pro LED landing lights and a Parmetheus Plus taxi light. The Pro is one of the best LED landing lights out on the market and below are a photo comparing it to a lower end Aerolite PAR-36. The Pro projects the light like a spot light while the Plus taxi version is more of a flood like to more widely illuminate the area around he aircraft for taxi. Some folks decide to go with four Pros too.

Do you think Whelan Aerospace would want to join the elite group of industry leading sponsors of the Mooney Summit VIII this year?  Our attendees and supporters have been known to reward handsomely our sponsors and donors!

if so, contact Rick.junkin@mooneysummit.com and he will make sure Whelen Aerospace gets maximum traction for supporting the Mooney community

Jeff at Whelen would likely make that call, and although I won’t speak for him, I can’t see why he wouldn’t want to jump into the sponsor pool.

Echoing @OSUAV8TER, I’d spend a bit extra, go with the Whelens, and don’t look back.  Best thing I’ve done for my lighting arrangement…which is now all LED, save for the 70303…due out hopefully soon.

BTW…my airplane is the first and third picture in @OSUAV8TER’s post above.  ;-)
