I was wondering if I installed 2 portrait 7” TXi screens in my Ovation would I need a stby instrument like the GI275? Is it an option to add AHRS to the MFD so it could display as a PFD should the PFD fail? I’m asking because of this Beech pic attached. It would seem so. B603D983-1C8F-400C-AD52-E312798CF1B9.thumb.jpeg.6615ae6bdb946a6f425334765c126b55.jpeg

Yes, this is possible but I heard a rumor that Garmin stopped selling the backup battery for the 7" TXi screen which would mean you'd need something else for a backup.  I'm not sure if that is true though so you'd have to check with Garmin.

you need a G5 or a GI275 as a backup. This has been asked on the forum a couple times already. The 10in is going to have more screen than the 2 7 inches.

@V1VRV2, You only need a G5 or GI275 if you’re planning to install a GFC500.  Otherwise, any standby ADI approved to back up the 500TXi will suffice.  Unless you have the legacy G500 presently, you’ll get the AHRS and Air Data Computer functionality built into the G500TXi.

Personally, I’d reconsider the 7” TXi screens.  The thick bezels take up quite a bit of space, leaving lesser screen viewing area, as opposed to the screen area of their larger cousin.  You’re better-off getting the GDU1060 display, and then either:

  • Doing a single EIS TXi for your engine data
  • Incorporating the EIS interface into your GDU1060, or...
  • Do a separate EDM900 or 930

Cost-wise, you’re better-off going with the second option.
