DaveB Posted October 7, 2020 Report Posted October 7, 2020 My Mooney has very mild hail damage on the ailerions....so mild I never saw it until my annual mechnic pointed it out....Does anyone know if it is an inspection issue and is there a written rule on the subject. Thanks. Dave Quote
ArtVandelay Posted October 7, 2020 Report Posted October 7, 2020 Based on your description, no, it’s not an inspection issue. 1 Quote
Ragsf15e Posted October 7, 2020 Report Posted October 7, 2020 If it’s a vintage airplane, tough to find them without a few dings somewhere. Mine is a ‘68 and you can also see hail damage on the ailerons if you look real close. Try looking on the bottom of them. Think they’ll be smooth? Maybe not, because there is some way to flip them and swap sides to get a smooth surface on top. I don’t know the details but that’s the gist. Shouldnt be a problem on the annual. Quote
bob865 Posted October 7, 2020 Report Posted October 7, 2020 Dimples make golf balls fly further.....think that works for airplanes too? Just call it a performance modification. 2 Quote
carusoam Posted October 7, 2020 Report Posted October 7, 2020 The rate of spin Required to get the dimples to work... might leave you a bit queasy... the sheet metal on ailerons is a bit thinner than everywhere else... They can be re-skinned... or replaced... There may be a dent measuring procedure in the MM..? Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
