I have thunderstorms forcast for the entire 3 day weekend! Can't really complain I've been off and flying around for the last couple of weeks. Time to order supplies for an oil change.

Up to AVL to drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway and check out the fall colors.  It was a great day to fly (and drive)!

Nobody ever flies there anymore.  The place is too crowded.

Ended up going to the Apple Valley Air Show and displaying.  It's funny, but we only found out about it yesterday.  We had been in past years, and weren't that impressed, but it's grown into a legitimate show with warbirds and a performance by Mike Mangold.  We show at a lot of air shows, but I was still surprised at the level of enthusiasm for the 201. We were placed in one of the best locations on the field, so that's probably why we had so much traffic (and we were the only Mooney).  A legion of cadets marched with us as we taxied, and one stayed with us, standing at attention by the plane.  I have never had so many families, and potential pilots, posing for photos in front of our plane.  One deluded individual even said we had the best looking bird at the show, but that really wasn't true (there was a beautiful polished Lockheed).  Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know that a lot of people think Mooney's are pretty cool.

We went on a low-level (2000') tour of the central valley of California.  Beautiful fall day, with visibility of about 40 miles, temperature in the 70s.  The delta country is ideal for a tour of that sort, with all sorts of details not visible from road level.    Stopped in Rio Vista and Merced, then home.

Great chance to try out the new (to me) Aera 510, which called out all the tall towers as verbal terrain warnings.  Only problem with that GPS is that it has so many useful features one tends to be "head down" playing with it rather than looking out.   Ended the day with a simulated (safety pilot watching) VOR 29 approach into o69 using just the Aera.  AOK and would be fine in an emergency.

I just flew local but finally had a chance to get my 83 year old father in the airplane.  My wife had to come out to the airport as well to assist me in getting him in there, but it worked out great.  Getting him out of the airplane proved more difficult than getting him in, but all in all it was fairly simple with help from my wife.

Today we are flying to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and spending the night to celebrate our anniversary.  The flight is 29nm from LBE but there is just something cool about flying in rather than driving in.  If none of you have ever been or heard of this resort you should check it out.  I used to fly for these folks (84 Lumber) and they built this place almost from the ground up and it is really something remarkable.  It has a 4000' runway so flying in is definitely the way to go.

I saw a Commander in the shop once and was astounded by the size of the cabin compared to the engine mount.  We really do pack our engines tightly in the Mooney - but the speed is great.

I flew today from GAI to GED for lunch with an aunt of mine to show her the new plane.  I ran into an Ovation driver at GED and watched another Mooney depart - it was nice to see three Mooney's there.

KRQB Roben Hood Airport, Big Rapids Michigan.

2011 Courtesy car, newly paved E/W runway, big clean ramp, very nice people, good choices for food in this college town (2miles). Very pretty airport and surroundings especially now with the colors peaking.

Had a great flight to Darlington, Hartsville and Camden (all SC).  Saw another Mooney at Camden from a distance.  Was home by 12:30.  2 hrs of flying, 3 new airports and 17 gal of gas.  2 more hours to go and I can carry passengers. The Camden flyin is Saturday only.  The gal on duty said all but 3 were gone by 5pm Saturday.  Have to remember that next year.

Next week hope to go North, Mocksville, Mt. Airy, etc. Color should be good then too.  I'll start another topic on Wednesday for next weekend.

Back to work (UGH) tomorrow.

Used to go there when I lived at in Atlanta.  Jealous.  There was a place with crab claws, I can't remember the name..

I was going to go practice landings this morning (its been a while since the purpose of my flight was practice), but ceiling was 1300'.

Tomorrow is pre-air race plane wash day

Monday my partner and I are taking two coworkers here (they send a car to pick you up at the airport): http://www.heritage-village.org/pickett-house.htm
